Thank God launching in the UK

ITV is to air a British version of TEN’s Thank God You’re Here.

It follows the short-lived US version on NBC earlier this year. TEN is yet to re-sign the Working Dog team to a new local series, which it promises will be “bigger and better.”

The host for the UK series will be improv actor Paul Merton.

“I’m delighted to be hosting Thank God You’re Here,” said Merton. “It’s a really great idea: none of the guests have any idea what they’re walking into and anything could happen. We’ve got lots of great scenarios lined up and I can’t wait to get started.”

Duncan Gray, ITV’s controller of comedy and entertainment, said, “TGYH is a laugh out loud, funny, fresh show, built around Paul Merton’s unrivalled improvisational skill and popularity.”

Other versions of the series have also been sold to The Netherlands, Germany, Russia, Sweden, Portugal, Belgium, Norway, Israel, and Denmark.

  1. It would be awesome if TEN buys the rights to the UK version. That way, they can play new episodes of TGYH in between cycles of the Aussie series. 🙂

The US version was bullocks though.

  2. Hopefully the UK version will do a lot better than the American version did. TGYH works so well becuase it suits Australian humour… and as UK humour is very much similar, TGYH should work well there as well.
