Top Gear tops viewers

Top Gear’s Polar Special attracted the show’s best ever ratings on Monday night with just over 1m viewers.

In a staggering race between a Toyota 4WD and a husky sled, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May (not to mention their film crews) were arguably cheating death by racing across frozen oceans. It made for dazzling television.

The show was ahead of commercial networks between 8pm and 8:30pm. Its previous best was in the low 900,000s and the Polar Special ranks on a par with the best Mythbusters performance.

Next week SBS shows the long-awaited episode when Richard Hammond returns after his horrendous car crash, plus a special where the ‘Hamster’ meets daredevil Evel Knievel.

  1. sbs has already shown the episode after accident, so i guess they will now show that series in order. at least now we’ll only be 2 seasons behind then …

  2. I agree, it was a great show, the only regret is that it didnt go for longer, it seemed to just end when Hammond made it to the pole and there was a brief conclusion and the credits rolled, left you wanting more!!
