Animal vet leaves Nine for TEN

Whatever you do, don’t go confusing your life guards with your vets or you could wind up in big trouble.

Sydney veterinarian, Dr. Chris Brown, formerly of Harry’s Practice, Burke’s Backyard, and currently still part of the Today line-up, will leave Nine to host a new factual show for the TEN network.

Bondi Vet promises to bring us, “the adventures of Dr. Chris, who lives and works in Bondi. Bondi Vet will allow viewers a unique insight into the world of one of Sydney’s busiest vets and the animals he devotes his days caring for and treating.”

TEN’s David Mott welcomed Brown to the network saying, “His warmth, charisma and charm are undeniable as the cameras capture his every move while he goes about his daily life as an animal doctor in a busy urban suburb.”

The show will be shot and produced in High Definition by WTFN Entertainment, producers of lifestyle programs including Talk to the Animals, Bread, Coxy’s Big Break and Shopping For Love.

Press Release:

TEN COMMISSIONS PET PROJECT
Popular television vet jumps ship to star in TEN’s new factual show Bondi Vet
Wednesday, February 13, 2008.

Network Ten is pleased to announce it has commissioned a brand new Australian program, Bondi Vet, which will commence production in mid-February, 2008.

Featuring charismatic and energetic Sydney Veterinarian, Dr. Chris Brown, Bondi Vet is an unscripted eight part, half-hour television series, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Australia’s most famous beach, Bondi Beach.

Chronicling the adventures of Dr. Chris, who lives and works in Bondi, Bondi Vet will allow viewers a unique insight into the world of one of Sydney’s busiest vets and the animals he devotes his days caring for and treating.

Audiences will be exposed to unusual, unexpected and extraordinary animal “tails”, and of course their owners, all through the eyes of Dr. Chris, who is adored by his clients, both the quadruped and bi-ped types.

From cats and crustaceans to canaries and chickens, Bondi Vet will show Dr. Chris saving the lives of animals that are ill or have suffered serious injury. Each episode will not only deliver a carefully crafted mix of human and animal interest stories, but will also feature a variety of animals that undergo elective procedures to longterm treatments involving the most intricate and technologically advanced surgery.

Viewers will be treated to the behind-the-scenes action of the veterinary surgery and will also get a sneak peak into the life of this handsome, intelligent and empathetic vet.

David Mott, chief programming officer, Network Ten said, “We are thrilled to have commissioned Bondi Vet, which expands our ever growing factual program catalogue and presents a fresh outlook on animal shows.

“We are also delighted to welcome Dr. Chris to the TEN family. His warmth, charisma and charm are undeniable as the cameras capture his every move while he goes about his daily life as an animal doctor in a busy urban suburb.”

WTFN’s director of production, Steve Oemcke said, “We have worked with Dr. Chris for over three years now.

We love his compassion, intelligence and sense of humour. We’re certain that the whole of Australia will feel the same.”

Bondi Vet will be shot and produced in High Definition by WTFN Entertainment, which is best known for lifestyle programs including Talk to the Animals, Bread, Coxy’s Big Break and Shopping For Love.

  1. Love tonights show, especially the comment that Zoe the dog was attacked by the red bellied black snake.
Looked to me that the snake was the one attacked by the dog, and the snake bit the dog trying to defend itself from being eaten.
Nothing like a bit of hype to make people think that snakes go around looking for things to attack. Well done.

  2. That was a terrible story about the dog that got run over
i will never leave my dog alone tired up again
Thankyou for sharing this story even though it was sooooo sad
i do feel for the owner i wish there was something someone could do about the idiot that let her off her lead

  3. All week I have seen ad after ad advertising Bondi Vet with the little dog Jackie, now we have her story and go right into what happened and then they kill her. When will people realise that the target audience of animal lovers don’t want to see miserable stories where animals die or get put down. I don’t know how many times friends have told me they won’t watch the vet shows because of the miserable endings, why can’t we have stories with happy endings, don’t we have enough unhappy endings in real life!! Watching peoples pets get put down on TV is not entertainment and I’m voting with my remote and not watching it anymore.

    1. I didn’t see it, but my experience of these shows is they are always happy endings. They would also probably argue it’s not entertainment, it’s factual. Interesting reaction though. Be curious to see if others feel the same.

  4. Hi just wondering about the man that lost his dog on your show this week.
I was wondering if he has got another puppy.
I have a very loving pup that need a good home if the man is interested..
    The pup is a chihuahua.

    Thanks Kerri

  5. We were so moved by the story about Rosie. Angus, her owner, is fantastic and such a wonderful person. The vets too were brilliant. It would be nice to see how Rosie progresses. Go Rosie go.

  6. I was deeply moved by story about pup Rosie with deformed front paws in last episode BondiVet.I’d like to express my sympathy to the owner Angus.
Good on you buddy. You are great person
I wish you all the best and quick recovery to Rosie. That creature is big reward for your kindness. She is adorable and very special.
    Violet.

  7. I adore this show and especially tonight’s story about Rosie the Golden Retriever. It’s beautiful and touching to see such devotion from Angus and what a gorgeous nature has Rosie..

  8. As a mature age Cert IV Veterinary student, I find shows such as RSPCA and Bondi Vet educational, and I beleive they should play an impotant part when becoming a pet owner or even if you are an existing pet owner, there is far to many cases of owners and people negleting or been cruel to their pets or just uneducated in pet care.
Some might say not another desexing, but clearly there are still a lot of people unaware of the importance of this procedure.
All animals regardless of if they are pets, natives or other have the right to be treated humanly and I urge more people and children to watch and pay attention to these shows, I am a pet owner and thought I new everything, I now beleive that people should take it uppon themselves to do at least an animal studies course before becoming a pet owner.

  9. Shame on u chris for operating on that lovely bulldog, desexing is one thing but giving him false testicles is just absurd, thought it could only happen in america. If people can’t manage a strong dog then why get one. As for the boyfriend he must have his nuts in his head.

  10. hi i was just wondering i was watching the show last night and was wondering if you could show how the bulldog got on as i have one myself and he is the same. Is there any chance of you following up animals to see how they are after cause i would like to know how much the bulldog changed.

  11. i cant beleave what i just read about giving birds prozac. where does this vet get off. i own 3 ecelectus 2 males and a beutiful baby girl.. im no vet but it sounds like to much iron in his diet.. to many pellets sunflower seeds they will make parrots hot and pluck feathers.. or it could be bored how many ecelectus owners buy these beutiful creatures then expect them to be in a cage all day and eat just seed and peletts. it makes me sick. i feed my babys fresh fruit every morning a littleseed for the day and fresh vegtables for dinner every night.. i love my birds and they love me back.( Theres no such thing as a mean bird) How many times has a bird been labeled mean because it bites. parrots always give warning before they bite…my birds are lucky tho they get to spend a lot of time out ofthere cages and they have a 3mtre by mtre play area. because i care for my loving friends….

  12. I have never heard of any vet giving birds Prozac the sad thing about the show is i dont think the owners really done any research into eclectus parrots i have had my boy 3 yrs this yr and he loves hes mum to and he sleeps with me what he was doing to her hubby wasnt agression he was feeling frisky lol i get that every few days if ive been at work he loves to show me hes missed me just to much at times lol

he didnt even look at the birds home as in cage area or if he had toys etc and to tell em to stop feeding him lol how stupid

would be good to be able to talk to the ppl who own the bird and get em some real help

    just my 2cents woth

  13. The Bondi vet showed his ignorance of Avian matters,

No idea at all about birds.

What an idiot to show your ignorance on national TV

    Bondi Vet = fool

Your birds will die if you listen to him

The tv producer and the channel should be sued

  14. This last week the vet on Bondi Vet had no idea what he was doing when he tried to tell a couple why their Eclectus parrot was plucking. I’ve owned ekkies for a long time so I know that 99% of the stuff he was telling them was rubbish and I hope like anything this woman asks someone else. He was tying to prescribe Prozac for this poor bird! What an idiot. I need to find out where to write to the station to stop this kind of garbage.

  15. I cant wait to watch this new animal show!!
I want to be a vet when i grow up.
I like this kinda show better then all those crime ones!
I’ll also be watching as much of bondi vet as possable.
    Thanks .

  16. I think its a good idea. Bondi Rescue was a big hit – still is.
Bondi Vet will also be a favourite.
However if it takes over Bondi Rescue I guarantee i wont be the only one dissapointed.
    go Bondi!!!!!
