Arrested movie in Development

Fingers crossed that early plans for a feature film of Arrested Development come to fruition.

Jason Bateman has told E! Online that creators Mitch Hurwitz and Ron Howard have been calling cast members to gauge their level of interest.

“I can confirm that a round of sniffing has started,” Bateman says. “Any talk is targeting a poststrike situation, of course. I think, as always, that it’s a question of whether the people with the money are willing to give our leader, Mitch Hurwitz, what he deserves for his participation. And I can speak for the cast when I say our fingers are crossed.”

The comedy show was always one for guest roles. If they do make a feature I may have to insist on another cameo for Liza Minnelli as Lucille Austero, a lush with vertigo!

Despite critical acclaim ratings for the third season were not enough to stop the show from cancellation. The last episode aired in the US in February 2006.

  1. Plenty of movies are made from TV Shows, Comics, Books what ever you can think of! And still do very well.
The movies always made to stand alone so anyone can just walk on in and watch it.
In the last few years since it finished its reached cult status and its fan base is growing more everyday. Maybe it will extend its audience base more in theaters.

  2. ill believe it when I see it

besides im more than sure people will be cueing up around the block to pay to see a movie of a TV show they didn’t watch when it was free.

    whats next a surface movie?

  3. Read this earlier. Best news I have heard in a long time. Quite possibly my all time favourite show. Now I just have to hope that it has the same fate as Family Guy and comes back on TV. It all ended far too quickly.

  4. This is my all time favorite show, everything about it is great.
The rumors of a movie have been ripe literally since the last episode aired two years ago, in the final episode Ron Howard is pitched an idea from one of the family members about making a series out of their families lives, Ron Howard replies “I see this more as a movie”.
The line was written and just about the whole of the third season was littered with lines about there failed ratings but high aclaim in awards, this particular line was derived from a review from the Washington Post that slammed the show and stated that it should have been a movie and that the movie had already been made by Wes Anderson titled The Royal Tennenbaums.
Literally as the final show aired in the States the internet blew up with the talk of a movie being released, every few months the actors say in interviews that talks are happening, its in the works, but the one thing that has stalled all talk is legendary writer Mitchell Hurwitz (creator of AD and involved with series like The Golden Girls, Ellen Degenress Show, John Laraquette Show, Empty Nest)has stated that he has had little interest in furthering the AD franchise because he feels he has said everything he wanted to say.
Bateman was asked just a few months ago about a revival of AD in any format and he stated that its was up to Mitch but he didnt seem to keen.
Hopefully things have changed and we can see more of these characters brought to our screens, in any format I dont care!!!
