Mick Molloy joins TEN

After The Nation didn’t fire on the Nine Network, Mick Molloy has signed with TEN’s Before The Game sports programme.

Molloy joins Dave Hughes, Sam Lane, Lehmo and Andrew Maher. Peter Helliar retired after 2007, but ‘Strauchnie’ is believed to be still making occasional appearances.

On joining the panel show, Molloy said, “Not many people know this about my relationship with Peter Helliar but I’ve been actually drafted under the father-son rule.”

“I’ve got a good feeling about the Tiges, this could be our best ninth ever.”

The show produced by Roving Enterprises returns Saturday March 22 to TEN.

  1. A performer is no greater than the company he keeps.

Without the efforts of Molloy the shows he helped made great may never have been.
He’s had what three shows fail?? And those being with Channel Nine which we know is popular for canning shows that don’t have over a million viewers in its first airing.
If you were to base any Australian personality on the same record we wouldn’t have ANY popular personalities.
These group casting shows that he was a part of have reached more of an Australian Cult Status than many dozens and dozens of popular shows/faces that have been in the same place.
He has been a part of shows that are up there with todays most popular shows. (both rating wise and monetary wise)
He may not represent your demographic or personality flavor, but he he has reached more than many many do.
Finding constant work in our industry isnt just a fluke, it does take a little talent.
I personally believe he reaches more of the target audience than your Kochs, Ritchie’s and McGuires ever does.
The problem with our audiences and what your displaying is that we write them off before they even have a go. (just a press release or promo turns a lot off). Its easy too sit in a lounge chair and pay out an idea.
Its now harder to give a person a “fair go”.

And if any Aussie personality deserves a go for giving so much entertainment in the past, its Mick Molloy.

Im biased because I have met him several times down at Richmond Pub and have gotten drunk with him, he is the typical Aussie bloke that has time for anyone.
    🙂

  2. The D-Gen/Late Show was a team effort, it was not a success solely due to Mick Molloy.

And yes he did well on radio, and made one or two good films, no denying those but as a TV performer I just think he’s very over-rated.

  3. I remember The Late Show, D-Gen both had Molloy and are Australian classics. As well as Crackerjack being one of the most succsesful Aussie films of all time.

  4. what is it with TV networks so keen to pounce on Mick Molloy? Jackie O is another one. Both are kisses of death for TV yet they keep getting TV gigs. I thought it was obvious by now that people don’t like either of them on TV.

  5. Lol @ Richmond’s best ninth ever. Didn’t realise Hellier was leaving and I for one don’t care as his collingwood bias was extremely annoying. As much as Eddie on TFS.

And the less said about that flog Straunie the better. Molloy is a great replacement and much funnier.
