…and next up, the Fugly Awards

And with the Logie Nominations out of the way, next cab off the rank is television’s own raspberries: The Fugly Awards.

Set to kick off on April 11, these snarky awards have been building since 2002 when they first started as a bit of a joke. They have since attracted 86,975 votes in 5 years. That’s no joking matter.

With its mix of bad /good / novelty categories this year the Fuglies promise their “Worst. Year. Ever.”

Fugly creators tell TV Tonight this year it will up the ante on its presentation ceremony. No longer merely standing on the footpath outside Crown Casino (truly ruly!), this year it is promising an actual ceremony. But in typical Fugly style, they just haven’t figured it out yet!

For 2008 there will also be two new categories including ‘Australia’s Best TV Viewer’ and an award for ‘The Community TV Show You Want on Free-to-Air TV.’

Despite having none of the budget of TV Week, the Fuglies still manage their fair share of media coverage in press, radio, TV and online.

Yep, the Fugly Awards just won’t die down!

  1. Reading here on David’s blog about that whole Kyle Sandilands tantrum at Rove yesterday we have just added another category, ‘TV Network Frenemies’. There’s got to be some dislike between other network stars despite the friendly appearances during shows, network idents and cross-promotions. Who better than The Fuglies voters to expose Frenemy Relationships to the naton?
