BB launch lowest so far

Last night’s launch of Big Brother nabbed TEN an audience of 1.51m viewers, just down from 1.54m last year. It peaked at 1.91m.

It was the lowest premiere of the reality juggernaut across all eight series. In 2006 the reality juggernaut launched to 1.8m viewers.

TEN’s premiere was beaten by a repeat of Border Security.

TEN finished third for the evening behind Seven and Nine.

In a week when TEN has its best shot at a ratings week this year, TEN still remains ahead of its opposition with a 28.2% share ahead of Nine’s 26.0% and Seven’s 25.9%.

  1. Kyle and Jackie O made the show fresh and for the first time in years.. ENTERTAINING! Gretel was TIRED so it was a great move. You can’t say u didn’t laugh! Kyle became more comfortable as it went along, he done well considering it was his first hosting role (its a different job from judging)… Advertising has been through all of tens shows for weeks… if u didn’t catch it maybe u werent even watching. I think the house and housemates are fresh and fantastic and think that this year will be awesome!

  2. I love BB but I think it was a silly choice to premiere it on a Monday night it should have been on a Sunday night as usual I also agree that Kyle did look like a stunned mullet

  3. 1.5 is an extremely good number these days – less face it, many lesser shows have launched to much lower numbers, though 1.6-1.7 would have been better

Theres so much change its still hard to judge what will or wont work – sure Kyle & Jackie looked a little on edge, but can u blame them? the whole future of the series rests upon their shoulders

Gretal had 7 seasons to get it right, so its little wonder she was so good at her job
And lastly, there will always be some “idiot” housemates, it wouldnt be a truely diverse house without them

  4. i thought it was stupid to put it on a monday night to start with…there hasnt been as much advertising as there has been in the past, i seriously didnt like Kyle or Jackie-O as hosts, Kyle stood there like a stunned mullet you could tell he wasnt comfortable. I think Gretel was the perfect host, the housemates though are a good mixed bag, was a bit disappointed with the typical bimbos in again but should be different this year

  5. mmm, that number doesnt allow much of a buffer for viewer drop-off before it becomes a concern for ten..I think (and hope) TEN are going to struggle with BB this year, both this and Idol are well past their use by dates..

  6. I really thought it might have got at least 1.6m. Maybe a normal Sunday launch would have done better? I’m still much happier with the show so far compared to last year’s ‘Meh’ launch. I think the changes could retain audiences more.

I’m surprised about Border Security, it’s a great show hasn’t everyone seen these repeats? Or did they just put a people meter in a nursing home?
