Ellen drops from Idol event

Contrary to previous advice, Ellen DeGeneres has just withdrawn from Idol Gives Back which screens Wed Apr 10 at 7:30pm on FOX8.

But there are new celebs involved including Robin Williams, Celine Dion, Forest Whitaker, Billy Crystal, Dane Cook, Kiefer Sutherland, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Jennifer Connolly, Elliott Yamin, Fantasia and Amy Adams who join previously announced international talent and sports figures Bono, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon, Miley Cyrus, Mariah Carey, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Fergie, Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, Annie Lennox, John Legend, Snoop Dogg, Maroon 5, Heart and Gloria Estefan.

Presumable, Celine Dion is via satellite during her Oz tour…

During the show, Australian viewers will be able to make donations via the Internet by clicking on www.americanidol.com and pressing the ‘DONATE’ button. The money raised by the charity special will be distributed by IDOL GIVES BACK to the following beneficiaries: the Children’s Defense Fund (www.childrensdefensefund); The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (www.jointheglobalfund.org); Make It Right (www.makeitrightnola.org); Malaria No More (www.malarianomore.org); Save The Children (www.savethechildren.org); and the Children’s Health Fund (www.childrenshealthfund.org).

The star-studded evening will echo the success of last year’s IDOL GIVES BACK which raised $US75 million for various charities that deliver support to underprivileged children in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the world, providing them with medical care, food and grocery products, health and life skills and literacy programs, among other important initiatives. In Africa , funds were dedicated to organisations that support efforts to battle poverty through various health and educational programs, including delivering medical supplies and providing clean water.
