Need a title for your new show? Just take one that’s already working and drop a word.

It’s almost getting hard to discern one show from another these days. Only one of these shows is a scripted drama, the rest are all factual:

Borderline
Border Security
Border Patrol
Sea Patrol
Surf Patrol
Deadly Surf
Bondi Rescue
Search and Rescue
RSPCA Animal Rescue
Animal Emergency
Medical Emergency

Outback Wildlife Rescue, Bondi Vet, Extraordinary Animals, and The Irwin Family’s Australia Zoo are also yet to air.

Got any ideas for any new titles? Bondi Patrol? Animal Security? Surf Vet?

  2. Haha thats awesome I knew these were all clones of one another but seeing them all together in one place like this is highly amusing. And for those who don’t know, the scripted show of these is Sea Patrol.

  3. I doubt the realness of many of these shows, particularly lifestyle shows (eg gardening blitz ones), and border security and the like. They just seem so set up. Plus, i really doubt people filmed on border security suspected of drug crimes would agree to be shown on tv without some reward, same thought process as chequebook journalism i would think. Can’t beat the scripted shows (assuming the shows mentioned by David aren’t scripted).

  4. You’re not alone, David. I’ve most certainly noticed the pattern. Incidentally, most of the shows there aren’t that much different to one another. :/ (nor do they ever try to be)

  10. re: Border Patrol/Border Security… your earlier article saying Seven had sold the format to the US leads me to ask: wasn’t Border Security, formerly Border Patrol, a copy of the NZ series of that name? Which came first?
