Jimmy Smits joins Dexter

Jimmy Smits is joining the cast of Dexter for its third season.

He will play “an ambitious, charismatic assistant district attorney” named Miguel Prado, who is well known as coming from one of Miami’s most politically connected families.

The role follows the demise of Cane and previous roles in LA Law, NYPD Blue, and The West Wing.

Minor spoilers follow.

Michael C. Hall’s character, a murderous blood spatter expert for the Miami police department, will join forces with Prado in their mutual pursuit “of a murderer who affects both of their lives directly,” according to a press release.

Smits will appear in ten of the season’s 12 episodes. Showtime is yet to announce an airdate for the third series.

TEN will screen the first series of Dexter in July, following both seasons which have aired already on Showcase. Repeats of Cane currently air on TEN HD.

  1. *sigh*

This should be great news, about it being on free to air… but it will no doubt be “butchered” *cough* and then when it fails to rate because they cut the good stuff out (or when there are too many complaints because they left too much in) it will be shafted to the 1am time slot or to TEN HD.

  2. Dexter is possibly one of the best shows on TV. I wonder how much TEN will edit the show… or what time it’ll be on.

I can’t wait for Season 3 to start!
