NBC says more Kath & Kim, ploise

NBC is understood to have ordered seven more episodes of the Americanised Kath & Kim, after seeing the first episode.

That would take its total to 13 half-hours, up from the initial order of six. Ben Silverman must have liked what he saw. That will come as a relief given the show was on-sold to affiliates without any pilot footage. That was enough to make one Canadian broadcaster decline.

It’s the second vote of confidence by NBC, who promoted the series from a planned Tuesday timeslot to its comedy Thursdays. It’s due to premiere on October 9, in the plum Thursday 9:30pm slot following The Office.

The show is scheduled to go back into production next month on the remaining episodes. No doubt everyone will be crossing their fingers there is no actors strike. It was already delayed by the writers’ strike last year.

The series starring Molly Shannon and Selma Blair still has Gina Riley, Jane Turner and Rick McKenna as co-producers.

  1. mmm, not sure id call a slot thats up against Greys Anatomy and CSI a promotion but anyway, its probably better having the office as a lead in than Biggest Loser that it would have had on Tuesdays..
