Returning: Farmer Wants a Wife

Nine will replace Sea Patrol with the return of its rural dating series, Farmer Wants a Wife.

Last year the show was something of a quiet achiever for Nine, building a steady audience in the final weeks of the ratings year. Now it has a vote of confidence, elevated from Wednesdays to Mondays at 8:30pm. It will compete against City Homicide* and Good News Week.

It screens from 8:30pm Monday June 30.

The FremantleMedia series, which first appeared in the UK, is franchised to Austria, Belgium, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the US.

Nine has also been repeating the first series during weekdays.

Updated: Seven adds City Homicide to June 30 timeslot.

Press Release:
Following the success of THE FARMER WANTS A WIFE last year, get ready to meet six more eligible bachelor farmers looking for a solution to their love problem when the new season premieres on Monday, June 30 at 8.30pm on Channel Nine.

Life is tough for men on the land. They face not only drought and economic hardship but terrible isolation, making it impossible to meet the woman of their dreams – until now. THE FARMER WANTS A WIFE is not a competition, there is no prize money, and the only winner in the end is … love.

The farmers are all prime husband material. After receiving a record number of online applications from women across Australia we will again follow the farmers’ road to romance over six weeks, and it’s going to be a steep climb.

Series host Natalie Gruzlewski says: “It was great to see true love blossom out of the first series, with farmer Chris and Kim. There was an obvious spark with them, and again this season love is definitely in the air.”

As the series opens viewers will be treated to Chris and Kim’s wedding, and from there we meet six farmers and 60 excited city girls who all head to a country estate where the farmers snatch five minutes with each of their 10 women. After the speed dating the farmers have a potentially life-changing decision to make: which five girls do they want to see again?

The farmers cull their list to five women and over the coming weeks they take their top five on a group date – ranging from paintball to roller skating and a day at the races. For some the chemistry is obvious.

At the end of each group date each farmer faces another big decision: he has to invite two women to spend 10 days on his farm – the three of them together – to see if love will grow, and make a final choice between the two.

Can the women eventually chosen give up city life? Will tension flare in the household? Rural work will be hard and dirty, and for some women just too much. But with the prize of a lifetime up for grabs – the chance that love will bloom in the outback – a farmer may just well find a wife.

THE FARMER WANTS A WIFE is a FremantleMedia Australia production for the Nine Network.

  1. I think the real question is, the question in regards to “reality tv”, do these relationships last or does the “realism” end after they stop filming?
Donald Pleasance once said “Realism and film should never be used in the same sentence”
