TT man "wasn’t fired."

Seven head of news and current affairs Peter Meakin has denied a reporter / producer at Today Tonight was forced to quit following the payout to Mercedes Corby.

According to the Sunday Telegraph, Andrew Bourke is believed to be the man who delivered the Jodie Power story to TT.

“It’s not the case that Andrew Bourke was put under any pressure to resign. That’s absolute bull**** We’re so squeaky clean on this one it’s not funny,” Meakin told the newspaper.

“We didn’t fire him. He had our total support throughout that case.

“He came to see me and he said he wanted to leave.

“I said, `If you want to leave, you’d better talk to (Today Tonight executive producer) Craig Macpherson.

“That’s the way it happened. He talked to Craig and put in his resignation.”

Last week, Bourke allegedly sent legal threats flying after The Australian said he was leaving Channel 7 after a costly defamation case. His legal team is also believed to have sent a letter to the The Sunday Telegraph.
