Voight joins 24

Jon Voight has signed up to play the enemy mastermind in season seven of 24.

Voight’s character will be introduced in the two-hour prequel planned for the US fall, then feature heavily in the second half of the full series.

Voight has made TV guest appearances (including as Pope John Paul II and also in Seinfeld) but has not appeared as a series regular since Gunsmoke in the late 1960s.

The seventh season is scheduled for January 2009.
