Jodhi (cat)walks out of live finale

This must be an Australian first. After weeks of telling teenage girls they needed to act professional to make it in the industry, host Jodhi Meares has bailed out of tonight’s live finale of Australia’s Next Top Model.

Organisers have turned to judges Charlotte Dawson and Alex Perry to rescue tonight’s event at Luna Park.

In a move many will view as “career suicide” Meares’ bailing on the series’ biggest night, follows criticism of her hosting the live to air broadcast last year.

The former wife of James Packer, will instead appear in pre-filmed packages, and according to one article, be sitting at home watching the show on her couch.

Meares said, “As I have made clear from the beginning, performing live entertainment of this scale is just not for me. This continues to be my position and therefore, I have made the decision not to take part in the live finale of Australia’s Next Top Model. I love the show and have had a fantastic experience this season.“

“Tonight is all about Alex and Demelza.”

“This show has given 13 talented, beautiful young women the chance to become Australia’s Next Top Model and I am really proud to have been involved in getting our two finalists to this point.”

“I love all of the girls and wish Demelza and Alex as well as our other finalists, the best of luck.”

Has the show been eliminating the wrong people?

  1. Get rid of Jodhi, she is so mediocre and has done so well out of this series. Free plugs for Tigerlilly, overseas shoots and free models. Sheer tragedy!
Charlotte Dawson should take over the reins, she looked amazing in Alex Perry’s dress even though it was obvious it was tailored for Jodhi. Her advice is sometimes harsh but totally honest and constructive.
Is Jonathan Pease having botox? there is no expression on his face whatsoever. Thank goodness Alex Perry put Jonathan in his place last night after Jonathan contradicted himself and Alex did it so well.

  2. There was not that much wrong with Meares’ performance last year. The problem really was the shockingly-bad production of the whole LIVE event. There were obviously no cues from anyone to tell who that they were on, microphones were not turned on, jittery camera work and editing … you’d think it was an unplanned, unscheduled, unrehearsed live broadcast at some breaking news site. Big Brother live Sunday evictions are far more professional. Meares performed the best she could while no-one seemed to know what was going on.

  3. Jodhi is a joke. I’m sure this must be a world first – being too chicken to host the live finale of the show you’re supposed to be hosting?! Pathetic and gutless Jodhi.

If Foxtel want this show to retain any credibility next season they must give Jodhi the boot and give the gig to Charlotte.

  4. give Jodhi a break, I think she has done a brilliant series and you could tell the hurtfull comments from last year really cut deep! Charlotte did well to fit into Jodhi’s Dress, just a little tight! I am looking forward to the next season and I don’t think anyone could do it better than Jodhi. I like the whole crew they gell well! Charlotte did a great job tonight.

  5. Bryce, you may not know this, but you can remove the “press red” things in the corner of any Foxtel broadcast by pressing the back button on the Foxtel remote.

But you should have seen the plug for Project Runway during the live finale!

  6. Bugger!
She was absolutely terrible in the finale last year and I was looking forward to seeing if she’d mess up on the live show tonight. Heh, heh…

  7. I’m just glad the show is over and those annoying “Alex vs. Demelza Press Red” things will be gone.

All that needs to happen is for the over promotion of Runway to stop and I’ll be happy.

  8. you make a good point Ben, but I think had it been a publicity stunt they would have announced it a few days back to allow it to make the entertainment sections of the newspapers and stuff…by announcing it just hours before the event, they dont get any press coverage until after the finale has aired.

  9. This stinks big time of a last minute publicity stunt.

She probably was never planning to be involved in the finale – but they’ve left it to the last minute to announce it.

Just like the media release about the bullying of contestants – get some extra attention before the show actually happens.

  10. gosh, she was car-wreck bad last year hosting the final thought..im not surprised shes bailed, surely she could have done it sooner than the day of the finale however..if Foxtel have any sense this show will have a new host next year..
