Rex Hunt in road rage claims

Celebrity fisherman Rex Hunt has been interviewed by police over allegations he seriously assaulted a cyclist in a violent road rage attack.

Mr Hunt, 59, was summoned to an interview at an inner-Melbourne police station on Wednesday over the alleged attack that left a 30-year-old cyclist with a suspected broken finger.

The Herald Sun claims Mr Hunt was driving along Ormond Esplanade in Elwood about 1.30pm last Saturday – on his way to the Collingwood-Essendon clash at the MCG – when he became embroiled in an argument with the cyclist.

Mr Hunt, who hosted Rex Hunt’s Fishing Adventures, allegedly got out of his 4WD and confronted the man before assaulting him. The cyclist was treated at Sandringham Hospital.

Police will decide in coming days whether to pursue criminal charges against Mr Hunt.

Mr Hunt, a sports commentator on 3AW, was unavailable for comment yesterday but today told Nine News that he would not comment.
