ACMA story connected to raid

A press article on regional TV black spots has triggered a raid by Australian Federal Police.

A bizarre story today says that Australian Federal Police reportedly spent four hours combing the home of someone connected to the Australian Communications and Media Authority after a story in The Australian on TV regional black spots. The original article suggested some regional viewers would not have TV reception once analogue signals were turned off.

The Australian Federal Police sent six detectives from Canberra to the Gold Coast to investigate the suspected leaking of information for the story about television black spots in regional Australia.

“The AFP can confirm a search warrant was executed in Queensland,” an AFP spokesperson said last night. “As this is currently an ongoing matter, it would be inappropriate to provide any further comment.”

The story said cuts of $4.6million to ACMA’s budget had forced the suspension of a program to test for digital TV black spots in regional areas and prompted the closure of field offices in Queensland and NSW.

In yesterday’s raid, the AFP is believed to have seized personal and work computers.

Sources have told The Australian a person within ACMA was stood down after a meeting with a senior departmental chief yesterday.

  1. on an ad on channel 7 just then for the news, they mentioned police blowing the whistle on hundreds of raids based on illegal search warrants. wonder if this story is related to that at all?

  2. Any chance The Australian could run an article on TV programming – maybe then the Feds will raid Networks execs homes looking for answers.

Next week in The Australian –

Why people have to pay for calling to keep in their TV favorites on shows ?
Why Jules Lund is still on TV ?
Just who thinks we need so many entertainment/gossip reporters on TV ?

    and the big one…

Why are Current Affairs shows not actually talking about current affairs but just doing stories on Bras, generic brands, bagging other networks, cross promoting their own stuff and fashion.

Cue Benny Hill music , or some decent raids.

  3. Errr… didn’t we vote out the fascist government already?

Senator Conroy, please explain this farce.

(I’d email him, but I know I’d just get another form letter about Labour Policy and all the stuff he’s banged on about in the Senate but hasn’t bothered to follow up on).
