Daryl back to Nine?

TV Tonight hears Daryl Somers had a meeting with David Gyngell this week. Could this signal another push to revive Hey Hey its Saturday?

TV Tonight hears Daryl Somers had a meeting with David Gyngell this week.

Could this signal the return of the Logie winner to the Nine fold in 2009?

Somers left the Seven camp last year (where he was on series to series contract) following seven seasons of Dancing with the Stars.

At the time there was widespread speculation he had wanted to return Hey Hey its Saturday to television, which ran from 1971 -1999, in a renewed form, but that Seven wasn’t keen to proceed.

A return to Nine would no doubt be trumpeted in a similar flourish to the return of Bert Newton when he departed Network TEN.

What do you think? Do you want to see Hey Hey v.2009? Or could there be a new show in the pipeline?

  1. You can hear bits of Hey Hey in the NRL footy show as well with various sound effects. Anyway as Hey Hey has such a huge fan base I’ve always thought Nine should repeat old shows on Saturday nights..like a best of. Perhaps Dazza could introduce them, give some background on the particular show etc.

  2. Saturday nights haven’t been the same since Hey, Hey was taken off the air. A lot of stuff Rove does on his show was and is similar to the stuff they did on Hey, Hey. In fact, some of the stuff Rove did in the early days were from Hey, Hey.

I do agree that they will have update it but characters like Plucka Duck and Dicky Knee will still work on TV today.

  3. Bring back Hey Hey! It was one of the most funniest shows ever! The awkwardness of it all was what made it so appealing. Better than watching 2 & Half Men and any cop show.

  4. I do believe that Funniest Home Videos wins its timeslot (correct me if im wrong) so if that wins the 6.30-7.30 timeslot it would surely give a good lead in for Darryl and HEy Hey

  5. I would go with hosting Carols by Candlelight this year. Ray is no longer on the books and I don’t think Nine would be keen for him to host it. Pre-production has just commenced on this year’s show so this would be the time that you would start locking in hosts and line up.

  6. Even if they do bring back HH, it’ll be different for the mere point a lot of the support cast have moved on into their own things. Then I also had the impression a lot of the support cast actually didn’t like Daryl, and didn’t mix with him outside of the show.

  7. Hey Hey is one of my all time favorite shows and my generations IMT/Graham Kennedy but like McCartney once said about The Beatles reforming..you can’t reheat a soufle.. or however you spell it! Would love to see Dazza back at Nine where he belongs though ,perhaps doing some kind of variety show.

Oh and he quit DWTS at the right time by the looks of it’s ratings.

  8. I say no but I would make the observation that at hey hey’s heart it was a team show so unless Daryl can surround himself with quality talent it seems a very risky move on nine’s part to sign off on a pilot. That sort of chemistry takes years to develop.

  9. c’mon darryl – no network is going to spend all that money to produce Hey Hey again, when a cheap movie out of their library will pull the same ratings.

Especially not the new profit driven Nine.

  10. I hope they get him back on 9 on a decent variety show – maybe a more contemporary Hey Hey but it would be great nonetheless.

9 need to rebuild their cavalcade of stars which made 9 special but has now been lost.

  11. I don’t know why everyone is so against Hey Hey. It was a fun, entertaining and much more happier and watchable than Rove has ever been. Give it a run again, it has something for everyone and will give us something to watch of a Saturday night.

  12. I’d be very happy to see a return of Hey Hey on Saturday nights… it was definately a high point of the week for me growing up… It would definately need to be dragged into the 21st century to attract new viewers to the show, but would still need to hold onto some nostalgic elements to keep all the old fans happy…

  13. nooooooooooooooo! spare us..
id be very surprised if Nine spent a large amount of money on a saturday night variety show again, he may welll return to nine but Id be very surprised if Hey, Hey, as we knew it gets of the ground again (thankfully!!)
