Denyer faces months of recovery

Grant Denyer is in a stable condition in intensive care but is expected to be out of action for the rest of the year.

Grant Denyer is expected to be out of action for the next few months after crushing vertebrae in his back in yesterday’s monster truck accident.

He is in a stable condition in intensive care at St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Sydney.

“We’re talking several months rather than weeks of recovery and possibly some surgery,” manager David Wilson told AAP.

“The damage he’s done is to his L1 vertebrae and he’s actually crushed that – it’s actually in about half a dozen pieces,” Wilson said.

“It’s a very serious injury.

“But the good news from the tests that have come back to date is that he’s not presenting with any apparent nerve damage issues.

“That is to say fingers and toes are all functioning normally.”

A Seven statement said specialists have conducted various tests throughout the day with results to be known during the next couple of days. The network confirmed he has full movement in his arms and legs and is in very good spirits.

“Grant, being the robust action figure man that he is, and this is a man who still currently holds five Guinness World Records, he is going to bounce back from this, it is just going to take some time,” Wilson said.

“I think by the time we see the next series of Australia’s Got Talent come around in 2009 he’ll be up and at ’em.”

  1. if you know about grant you’ll know that V8 will come first, he is a fanatical driver it is not a hobby for him he’s been into racing ever since he was a kid. He can tell you anything you want to know about Aussie motorsport past and present. Driving comes first for grant so i think seven wont have a say in it.

  2. I think one of Grant’s records is the most underwear put on over your clothes or is it the helicopter bungee… But I would expect Seven to put a brake on Denyer’s V8 driving ambitions, when he comes back full time.

  3. yeah Mad Dog has had a tough time here. He’s a really nice guy and strong as an ox too. He’s a pretty good v8 driver lots of talent. He’ll be fine. He is a very positive bloke so he’ll come through this.
