The Block draws huge Sunday shares for Nine

The rollercoaster continues with reality auction topping the night with a big network share -but with a sting in the tail in annual trends.

It was a dramatic, controversial finale for The Block last night with record-breaking prices and highs & lows in contestant winnings.

And Nine finished the night with a whopping 44.6% share.

With the show running overtime in preliminary numbers the Grand Final averaged 1.38m metro viewers -rising to 1.69m viewers for the moment Omar & Oz were announced as 2022 winners. As always, that dwarfed the competition.

Those numbers, however, are down on 2021’s 1.56m / 1.84m and are the lowest since 2010 -albeit without 9Now streaming numbers included.

Trailing Nine was AGT at 475,000 then Inside the Sydney Opera House (323,000) The Traitors (206,000) and Curse of the Ancients (142,000).

In preliminary numbers 60 Minutes was 700,000 for Nine tripling Armed & Dangerous (207,000),  Significant Others (194,000) and NCIS: Hawaii (137,000).

Nine network easily won Sunday with a whopping 44.6% then Seven 23.0%, ABC 12.5%, 10 11.8% and SBS 8.2%.

Nine News drew 777,000 for Nine and a late edition was 395,000.

Seven News won with 796,000 for Seven. Monster Mansion: Evil Behind Bars was 116,000.

ABC News was 527,000 for ABC. Silent Witness (181,000) and Frankly (118,000) followed.

The Sunday Project managed 209,000 / 189,000 for 10. 10 News First pulled 194,000 / 162,000. FBI was 111,000.

On SBS it was SBS World News (136,000 / 111,000), King Tut: Allies & Enemies (88,000).

Bluey led multichannels at 131,000.

In Total TV numbers last Sunday were:

Significant Others: 517,000
The Traitors: 399,000
The Block: 1.76m
AGT: 900,000

  1. It was the worst Block auction I have seen. The same old buyers advocates there as usual and that Danny bloke who, as rich as he may be, is just annoying I think. The regular lady advocate with the fringe didn’t even bid this time from what I saw. If the lamborgini buyer of the boys home wasn’t there, none of them would have made much money. Even though I wasn’t a fan of SJ at all, I did feel sorry for her and Tom after them being touted as favourites all season. Proven just about every season you can’t take any notice of what those judges say.

  2. The Block, I do not get it…everything hangs of the whim of one rich bidder….has nothing to do with the work the participants put in…a bit of a farce really?
