Gossip Girl back to Nine

Move over 90210, Gossip Girl is getting a free to air broadcast after all.

After initally being on-sold by Nine to Foxtel, Gossip Girl is going to get a free to air broadcast after all.

Nine will screen the Josh Schwartz series sometime over summer.

FOX8 has already screened the full first season, one of its most popular drama series. It is likely to remain the home of first run eps for the series.

The second season premiered in the US this week, but so far no word on when it is due in Australia.

Nine’s selling of the series is not the first time it has on-sold acquisitions. The OC originally began life on Nine, but didn’t fire with the audience, despite TEN having a solid run with it. Nine also sold The West Wing to the ABC later in its lifespan.

  1. Just got a copy from eBay, but looks like they are all UK imports. Can’t see any local release yet. I buy most shows on DVD now, can’t be bothered putting up with moronic TV scheduling.

  3. im very dissaponted in channel nine. we got 3 epsiodes in then it went of air for a couple of weeks. i understand that 2 out of the past 3 weeks since it first aired on channel 9 was christams eve and new years eve so understandably it wasnt on but last night the tv guide said gossip girl 10.30 i waited 10.30 came and went and all we got was a second epsidoe of ER. im very dissapointed in channel nines commitment to airing tv shows.

  4. I went into a store to buy season 1 of Gossip Girl on DVD and they told me it hasn’t come out yet and they didn’t even know a release date yet. but then i read on the net that someone said you can buy it from JB Hi Fi so i don’t know.. Is it out on DVD yet or not??

  5. Having seen all of season 1 on fox 8 and half of season 2. I do feel really sorry for people who are missing out. I would recommend buying the season 1 dvd for about $45.

    The last half of season 1 is so amazing i’ve seen some episodes about 3 times and it dosn’t get old. With the same amount of advertising fox8 gives this show, channel nine could have killed a 8.30 week night timeslot.

  6. Does anyone know if Gossip Girl has actually been axed or has it been changed to a different day???? i almost cried last night when i was waiting for it to come on and it never did! I looove Gossip Girl!! First channel 10 take the new 90210 off and now WIN does this! Not happy 🙁 i’ve been waiting for it to come back on after it took a break for Christmas.

  7. Channel 9, pull your heads out and show this tv show when you have advertised it to be shown. and if you’re so concerned about better ratings, here’s an idea, how about put it on at a time where more people would be allowed to watch it…..any monkey could have figured that one out!

  8. Nine seem to lack balls, they cut GG last night without any warning at the 10:30 timeslot and put on another episode of ER!

    It had even been reviewed in the Sydney Morning Herald TV guide for 10:30.

    Come on Nine! If your going to do it atleast have a message onscreen so people know you reprogrammed. I just assummed that they had badly mannaged time again.

    I’m just going to go online now and watch them and buy the DVD when it comes out.

  9. I’ve been hanging out to watch gossip girl over new years back on channel nine (Win), which is slacking in tv show it puts on except for the announcement of gossip girl. Just following the tv guide aka the bible of television, it said gossip girl was on at 10:30 7th of January. So staying up trying to keep eyes open through ER until 11:30 thinking when will it be on but no to my discus it wasn’t they had put temptation. This is very annoying staying up to watch a show and it never comes on.

    Channel 9 (Win) you need to get your act together with disclosing a show to be on tv and then not airing the it.

    Email if there is any news on whether gossip girl will be returning so people can enjoy it. Don’t follow prime air half a show of Private Practice and never for it to return. Stick with it or else you will lose your consumers.

  10. Will Gossip Girl will be back on Channel Nine?

    I think Channel Nine need to improve not to cut until episode 3 since on 24.12.08 is the last one ive watched in Brisbane times and then whats happened not on anymore? Why would they cut them off episode two and three and they should put it there for long time until its end of episode and why would they wasting times when they put there for fews week and thats it… so disappointed

  11. i really hope they do air it at least for a little while because my parents won’t get fox coz they think i’ll spend all my time watching tv so i only have FTA! and i really love gossip girl…

    the tv guide said it would be on tonight right now but it’s ER so i’m really pissed. i hate it when it prints one thing but shows another.

    channel nine sucks. they’re idiots. no one watches them and now i know why, they sell the rights to all the good shows to the other channels!! they sold the OC, gilmore girls and the west wing! all shows that totally took off but channel nine just sold em. they’re idiots. no wonder nobody watches them. finally they say that they’re going to show somthing good and then they put freaking er on instead. i hate them. i’m boycotting them. i’m not going to watch channel nine anymore. unless they bring back gossip girl!!

  12. @rhi – I’m confused, too! According to the ninemsn website it’s on Wednesdays at 10.30. But not on their own TV guide. What the hell?
    I apparently missed 2 episodes (4 and 5), so I caught up by watching them online, but I would much prefer to see them on telly.

  13. Does anyone actually know if gossip girls is coming back to channel 9? I understand that its been on fox for two seasons but not everyone has pay tv. They aired about 4 episodes!! What’s happening!

  14. I agree. I think 10.30pm at night is very late and it will be difficult for most people to watch it. I think if it was on earlier, alot more people will watch and ratings will sore high. I am hoping it isnt going to be like OC and be stoped before it even finishes because so far of what I have watched, I am loving it!

  15. Channel 9 need to fire someone! The timeslot they have given Gossip Girl is 10.30pm on a Wednesday night! It is just not going to be watched by it’s target audience. Next thing 9 will axe it because it is not getting the ratings, another channel will pick it up and it will become a huge hit. Yeah a lot of people have already watched it but there are still a lot out there that haven’t!

  17. Cannot wait for it to air in Australia. The sooner the better, hopefully it will run with Fox 8 and not Nine as they don’t have the best track record with new drama series.

  18. Gossip Girl has been seen and talked about by the people who we’re most keen on it – if Nine had been smart,they would have held onto the rights and screened it over Summer

    Considering the way they treated both Moonlight & TBBT over summer, who knows what will even happen with GG….i give it 5 eps before Nine yanks it

  21. I didn’t like the pilot. It felt too forced and I didn’t care for any of the characters, they all came across as shallow, materialistic spoiled brats and it didn’t have any of the warmth and wit that I enjoyed in shows like The OC and Buffy.

    they should just give it to ten, 9:30 after 90210 would be a good time for it
    the show is so bad that it is good, its trashy predictable and unoriginal but its really good

  23. It’s been a show I’ve been wanting to see ever since I heard about it. I don’t have much faith in channel 9 showing much of it but if I can at least see a few episodes, I’ll know whether it’s good enough to buy the DVD’s (when they come out, that is).
