Seriously D-Day?

As it launches its 2009 programme line-up today, could "Seriously" be banished to history?

Is today the day that “Seriously” becomes a thing of the past for TEN?

Today Network TEN has its 2009 programme launch, first in Sydney, and later in Melbourne, where it will unleash its shiny new line-up and attempt to put the year behind it.

With the exception of a handful of hits (notably So You Think You Can Dance Australia) it hasn’t been the best of years for TEN.

The second part of the year has been worse than the first, with viewers in a wholesale snubbing of the network since the Olympic Games. Dependable brands like House and Bondi Rescue have struggled. Australian Idol, while still tracking with its core demographic, isn’t what it used to be. New temptations like 90210 have been bumped to summer. The 7pm timeslot is a joke.

And let’s not even talk about Big Brother.

To wipe away the pain of 2008 and convince viewers it has rejuvenated, many are wondering if TEN will re-brand today. While nobody is expecting the logo to change, perhaps the time is up for the “Seriously” slogan.  After all, it has been a part of the network since as far back as 2001. TEN desperately needs to communicate a new image moving forward.

We are also waiting to hear how it will replace the Big Brother “tentpole” that is no more. Previous reports indicate it has a new franchise to come.

TV Tonight is also hearing whispers of the return of Thank God You’re Here around March.

Across summer Ten will programme summer programming in themed timeslots: 7.30pm for entertainment, 8.30pm for drama, 9.30pm and later for more hard-hitting, adventurous programming — in the hope of building the brand and audience expectations.

  1. I think Neighbours should retire after its very long run on Channel Ten and Ramsay Street/Erinsbourgh will close down in the near future – same to Channel Seven’s veteran afternoon game show Wheel Of Fortune. Neighbours has been running on television indefinitely.

  2. Please axe the ‘Seriously Ten’ slogan and jingle and major revamp the whole network. That slogan’s been around for too long!

But the axing of the long-term Seriously Ten should cease with the one’s Ten has chosen for the major revamp. Australian Idol, Meet The Press, Totally Wild, Ready Steady Cook and even the overkilling repeats of The Simpsons needs to be axed and a new slogan, major-revamped logo, and a new direction found for Channel 10. Rather sooner than later.

How About the new slogan and jingle is: Show me TEN!!!

  3. I reckon the TEN logo (or the ‘ten’ logo as it is displayed) looks way too similar to the ABC logo in the US. They need to have an original logo. Also, the slogan needs to go as well – they are a well-known network that have a high entertainment value, nothing serious there. They need to be more bright. The Nine logo needs to change as well…hmmm…maybe they need to snatch the ‘Seriously’ slogan???

  4. I’d like to see them hold on to Will & Grace at 7pm.

Return to the old set for the news because the new one with the corregated metal fence thing in the background is absolutely a disgrace.

Keep The Simpsons at 6pm people like it that way, it’s reliable.

Perhaps introduce a cast member to Neighbours with talent, a novel concept.

    Scrap Australian Idol.

Re-run Veronica Mars from day one but give it a lot of promo’s so that you can get people interested this time.

  5. Themed timeslots over summer.
Finally someone is listening – themed nights or hours makes sense..and if continued form ore than 5 minutes gives some sort of consistency for viewers.

Ten definitely needs a new slogan – seriously (crap or rubbish does not work)

And they desperately need to remember they have more viewers than just the 16-25 year old group – so a slogan or promotion needs to impress a wide range not just a small demographic.

  6. the graphics they use for there promos make them seem like children, the “seriously” slogan is outdated aswell

as for the logo, they have had a shocking year so maybe they need a radical rebranding for 2009, but i do like the logo

  7. OMG man no way! there is no way in this world TEN should get rid of ‘Seriously’. It’s the best slogan E.V.E.R and i remember there was a poll on this site about slogans and Seriously got the most votes. TEN please please do not change it.

I think the logo should stay as well, it’s really nice and its got that white shine thing to it now. They call it the new ‘glossy’ logo.

However the thing that desperately needs changing is the ‘theme’ or whatever you wanna call it. TEN HD looks the best, followed by channel 7’s theme. Channel 7 has that ‘crooked’ look and its awesome. TEN’s one sucks with all those hand signs and the ‘i believe’ stuff and everything is black and white and yellow. Since they’re gonna get rid of TEN HD… just make the original TEN have that theme.

keep up the great work ten. You guys should be proud of yourselves. You’ve kept me interested in your channel for years now and i seriously love it. I am disapointed about BB, but it did suck this year.

    Have an awesome 2009 TEN.

  8. Can’t see anything wrong with the ten logo, so in don’t think it will change. But the days of personalities looking zany in network promos and pressing buttons has had it’s day.

  9. Leon, ten didn’t get rid of thank god, working dog decided not to do it this year. Who knows about the coming years.

Hopefully 10 have trawled through hundreds of posts on this site and the comments people have made and taken these into consideration. Some very good ideas come from this site.

  10. I actually really like the TEN logo, they shouldnt change it, however a new slogan, new indents etc are a good idea, but nothing wrong with the logo.

the logo maybe make the letters capitals in the circle rather than little letters, maybe create some alt colours for themes.

  11. David, I would say “seriously…” is gone. The logo will go too (as it is approaching twenty years of continuous use). Ten needs a bright new image to project not just for 2009, but also for 2010 and beyond. Why 2010? Thats when Ten screens the Delhi Commonwealth Games (which would attract a older audience to Ten).

  12. hmmm after just seeing the set up for the melbourne event, it looks like the logo, and definately the word ‘seriously’ is here to stay. It’s been plastered everywhere.

  13. ..and then the second week into summer they will ditch all those themes and continue their damage control

It would be nice for TEN to show their whole summer schedule without changing it – and then follow that example into the winter line up

Also that logo has been around for the best part of 15 years – time to go I say – new logo, new slogan and new colours. Maybe they can try something “professional”

  14. They were idiots to let ‘Thank god you’re Here’ while it was on TOP!

I wonder what they are gonna come up with, cant be much worse than thier current line up!
