Gossip Girl spin-off?

The word 'why?' springs to mind, but the CW Network is contemplating a spin-off of a show that's only into its second season.

The CW Network has confirmed that it’s looking at ways to spin off its hit Gossip Girl for next season.

CW President Dawn Ostroff told The Hollywood Reporter that the network is in discussions with the producers as to how a new series could be done. So far nothing has been finalised.

“If it’s the right idea, we’d all embrace it and be enthusiastic,” Ostroff said. “But nobody more than Josh (Schwartz) and Stephanie (Savage) want to make sure there’s the right idea that they can wrap their arms around and really be excited about.”

While talks proceed on network developments, there is still the possibility of an interruption from an actor’s strike.

“We’ll do as much as we can as early as we can,” Ostroff said, “but we’re all holding out hope that there won’t be a strike.”

Gossip Girl’s second season premieres shortly on FOX8, while the first season is airing on Nine.

  1. In the Gossip Girl book series there is a spin off called The IT Girl, and is about Jenny. But i believe the CW are looking at spining off a series regular (that’s not Jenny) or introducing a new character who isn’t in the books.

  2. There was going to be a spinoff about Jenny or something like that, as she moves somewhere just like in the books. I thnk it was also about following her as she moves into a boarding school? Interesting. Either way, it wouldn’t hurt for the CW to try it, as most of their shows are pretty much flops and at least a show like this would heave in the demos they want.

  3. Yeah, dont they want to do a spin-off based around Dorota (Blair’s maid)? She is a funny character. But im not sure about her own show. She is better off with GG and with Blair. I love their relationship.

Its like The OC, they wanted to do a spin-off about Kaitlyn and her life in boarding school or something, and they never did.

Dawn Ostroff….as in from the Ostroff Centre, lol. They used the President of CW’s name, that is funny 🙂
