Griffith wary of ‘Tits & Bums’ Underbelly

With quotes like this for Underbelly, the former mayor of Griffith is a one-man publicity machine for Nine.

Paul McKay, the son of anti-drugs campaigner Donald McKay, says he has seen the promotional material for Underbelly 2 and did not wish to comment until he had seen the series itself.

But the former mayor of Griffith John Dal Broi was happy to chat the Sydney Morning Herald, giving good copy on the upcoming Nine series.

“There are a lot of tits and bums,” he said. “Just how that relates to Griffith, I don’t know. I am just worried that this Underbelly is going to exaggerate things out of all proportion.”

On television John? Never!

Still, I get the feeling everyone else will be smiling over apprehensive statements like that, especially Nine.

The prequel will focus on Mckay, to be portrayed by Andrew McFarlane, plus other characters from the 1970s.

“I don’t think [the series] is going to do any justice to what really happened. It may cause a bit of grief and pain, particularly with the McKay family because … they recently unveiled a statue in the street of Don McKay.”

Another former mayor (where’s the current one?), Dino Zappacosta, said: “I don’t think people will like it at all. It is very close to home. The people were very much against what was happening at the time, especially when there are newly arrived people who came from virtually nowhere and got these grass castles [houses built from the profits of illegal drugs].

“[The TV series] is going to leave a nasty taste in people’s mouths.”

Can we get that put on a poster, please Nine?

  1. I watched 15 minutes of underbelly and turned it off, I don’t reckon the 2nd series will be any better.

On the “tits and bums” thing, sadly that and sass is pretty much what sells most scripted and some reality series these days turning them into recurring unwatchable, boring twaddle

  2. I have a feeling this series of Underbelly will just be an overhyped turd. The scripts and style for U1 were polished and altered for over a year, this series has been thrown together in mere months.

The “tits and bum” may be it’s only saving grace…
