Southern Cross Darwin buckles and Territory viewers get live tennis for the rest of the Australian Open, ahead of Qld, SA and WA.

dokicIn Queensland, South Australia and WA, Seven won’t budge, but Southern Cross Darwin has finally heard the pleas, and will give viewers live Australian Open tennis for the remainder of the tournament.

Until today, matches on SCTV have experienced a 1.5hr delay.

The Northern Territory News has received several letters and text messages from readers angry that they could only see the tennis on delay.

According to the newspaper, many tennis fans already knew the result of the Dokic match from the radio or internet.

New programming information confirms coverage from today until Sunday’s men’s final will now be live on SCTV.

Southern Cross TV Darwin programming co-ordinator Kym Godbold would not comment on the reason for the new live programming, or why the delayed broadcast was used prior to the semi-finals.

Seven’s evening matches in Qld, SA and WA remain delayed. Its last statement on the matter was something to do with “viewer feedback….”

  1. Hello!! Extra digital channels!? Why not use them! Tennis live on one channel, delayed on the other so they can still have news, TT, and H&A from 6-7.30. Best of both worlds.

  2. Its disgraceful how Seven treat the tennis and really should be punsihed by the organisers. I think they should demand the tennis is broadcast live across the country or they lose the rights. I mean to not even put on Dokic’s quarter final live is just atrocious. I mean I looked up the result and couldn’t be bothered watching the rest of the game.

  4. 7 says the reason it is not live is so people can see the whole match, yet i am still hearing plenty of complaints about them going to other shows rather than finishing the match. not that i noticed coz i watch the shows not the tennis and from a personal point of view would rather they do this so that i don’t go to watch a recorded show and discover it started really late but it needs to be said that people are saying they still aren’t finishing the matches despite it being delayed.

  5. I know it’s hard and I’m not one to speak but maybe those people who want to watch the match ‘live’ on ch7 should not go on line, listen to the radio or watch other TV news until they see the match?

    But good that it will be live from now on.
