The “D” word

Talk of another potential Underbelly courtcase? This time with the word "defamation" attached.

underbelly-shakeHere we go again. Talk of another potential Underbelly courtcase, this time with the word “Defamation” attached. So far it’s all just that -talk.

Tom Domican, a former Labor party official and contruction industry consultant, 67, has engaged Sydney lawyer Greg Gould to also examine whether he has been defamed by the Nine Network in its promotion of the new TV series based on the book, about the gang bloodshed of the 1970s and 1980s.

The Daily Telegraph reports Mr Domican said: “I received a phone call from a Perth businessman last night who said my photograph has appeared on the cover of Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities.

“I have not read the book.

“However I have referred the matter to my legal team and if there are grounds for defamation we will ask the courts for an injunction on both the book and the soon to be aired Underbelly series which is based on the book.”

Mr Domican said he had been acquitted of all charges and would release his own book later this year.

While the first series was dogged by court action in relation to pending trials, the second series could find the “D” word its biggest legal enemy. Presumably Nine and Screentime’s legal eagles have been over it with a fine tooth comb.

  1. Mr Domican says he is publishing his own book later this year. This sounds like an attempt to create interest in his own book. If he was acquitted of all charges what’s the problem and who cares 30 years after the event?
