Lie to Me in viral campaign

An Australian YouTube user says he has been paid to create a video blog promoting Lie to Me.

lie-to-me-ep-5-unchained-6An Australian YouTube user says he is being paid to create a video blog promoting Lie To Me in return for payment from 20th Century Fox.

Hugh Thomas, 26, from Bondi, said he was asked by a mystery third party which he would not name, saying he was bound by a non-disclosure agreement.

His YouTube channel has just under 20,000 subscribers, making him the 12th most subscribed in Australia.

Thomas said he was “approached by companies all the time” and had previously published videos sponsored by Sony and Paramount Pictures. But he said he always had the final cut.

“If you can still create a video that is interesting, funny … and it can advertise a product as well … then I don’t see any [ethical] issue with that,” he told Sydney Morning Herald.

Network TEN said the campaign would have been co-ordinated by Fox in the US and it had no involvement.

20th Century Fox spokeswoman Pam Jackson said this was the “first I have heard of this [campaign] being done” but she could not provide a response by deadline as her “counterparts” were “out of town on business”.

The show is so far doing good business for TEN as one of its new US dramas.

  1. So what’s his problem? He was happy to work “undercover” for two companies and is now having complaining about about a third? He needs to work out his stance rather than making himself and his business “customers” look bad.

  2. Is he stupid ? Does he do work for the major companies mentioned ? Was he approched by someone to do something for Lie to me ? Could it all just be fabrication just to get his name and details published in the SMH…

    1. Not every story here is presented as breaking news and I don’t think it was written up in that way. It was a story that was worth logging, no more, no less. I also didn’t blog on the National Day of Mourning.

  3. Wow, this is a good way to ensure that no-one does business with you in the future – sell your story to the SMH along with your name and details of the clients you work for…. How stupid can this guy get?
