Freeview ad #2 due Sunday night

Here we go again. Freeview's marketing ad will screen simultaneously across five FTA networks, this Sunday night at 6:29pm.

freeview063On Sunday night the next stage of Freeview’s marketing campaign begins, with another ‘roadblock’ advertisement across all 5 free to air networks at the same time.

Freeview deployed the same concept when it hit TV screens last year.

This Sunday at 6:29pm the new 60-second promo will air across Seven, Nine, TEN, ABC and SBS simultaneously.

The promo, built around “why we love TV” promises some of the memorable free-to-air TV moments that Australians have ever witnessed across the years. It will be designed around moving vignettes, from historic and world-changing events to favourite characters, with drama-filled scenes and moments in sport.

“Everyone has their favourite TV moments or remembers a time when they were absolutely glued to the TV – this reminds us all of why we love our free TV,” said Freeview CEO Robin Parkes.

“We’ve captured some of those moments – I’m sure people will have their own favourites too.”

The campaign coincides with the arrival next week of Freeview-endorsed digital TV equipment in retailers nationally.

In a recent interview with TV Tonight, Parkes added, “It’s a new ad focussing much more on the content. The first ad went out very information heavy -EPGs, no contracts or fees. This is all about the love of TV. It will run as a roadblock at 6:29 and then every night it runs for a month and then there’s a 30 second ad which tells you what you have to do to get a set top box or high definition TV. And it drives them into a store to speak to their retailer.

“We’re not going to try and explain what you need in equipment, it says your local retailer can assist you in choosing a product.”

Freeview says an extra five free digital channels are already available (ABC2, SBS2, Seven HD, Nine HD and ONE) and new free-to-air channels will progressively roll out over the next year. A media conference is also planned for next week.

  1. Just in regards to what Freeview said in the last paragraph of this article, there isn’t five extra channels available already, for regional viewers that is. I can’t see how these bodies are allowed to generalise so much. It’s truly bad marketing.

  2. To the regional veiwers asking about OneHD; Southern Cross Ten, WIN Ten SA & the 50/50 owners in Tas & Darwin aren’t going to sign up until they know the metro ratings for it. The metro ratings for OneHD may be high in the first couple of weeks, but then drop off once the novelty wears.

I wouldn’t expect regional networks to hand over ‘X’ amount of dollars to Ten until they know how it pans out. Sometimes these programming output deals can last up to ten years…

  3. You think they got their Sh#t together this time they just need to roll out the extra channels and then and only then will freeview have its sh@t together stop wasting my time trying to let me know about it and get on with it and applying for even more channels to multicast so the fta could truly compete with pay my children will be parents before the fta get it together this snails pace is sad

  4. Great concept – lets move into the next century by living in the past. And Rob the whinging is because these clowns dont get it – ‘Survivor’ anyone??? Thats right ch9 cant find the switch for their other channel.

  5. Excellent news! 60 seconds which will confuse the flap out of 90% of viewers… I hope they give us 3 or so months again to diffuse the confusion this ad generates… Goooooo Free-View! 😕

  6. Molly’s death on a country practice must be there that scene pretty much stopped Australia back on Wednesday night 5th June 1985 and it would count as one of the most memorable free to air TV moments

  7. 7 minutes – that’s all it takes people to become whinger material.

Is this nonense of complaints going to last 6 months unitl all FTA have their second channels up and running. If so, the phrase get a life spings to mind, but alternatively, live your life through tv stations not releasing stations fast enough
    might be what you deserve.

  8. The memorable moments of Free TV:
    -The day 7 lost it’s C7 lawsuit.
-The day 10 became 10 TV Australia in 1989
-The day 10 went into recievership in 1990
-The day Dan Ilic made fun of your ad, Freeview.
-The day Foxtel brought out the iQ
-The day Qintex let 7 to go into recievership
-The day Freeview is declared as bored rigid by Kuttsywood.

Oh wait, that last one is today!

Kuttsywood- I say Freeview bored me rigid, that’s why I have a iQ2!

  9. Here’s some memorable moments of free TV:

Channel 9 was “still the one”
You only got your news from ch 9
60 minutes had hard hitting stories, no fluff
8.30 meant 8.30, or 8.31 at worst, not 8.37 or later
Timelsot changes and axings were rare
Movies, news or music overnight – no informercials
Looking forward to the Sunday night first to TV movie…

  10. “We’re not going to try and explain what you need in equipment” – well why would they given that every other time they’ve opened their mouth they’ve managed to alienate and get the viewers more offside. Then again, the government’s ad campaign seems to be making more sense than Freeview so perhaps it is best Freeview don’t say anything.

But I’m not really sure what is the point of the ad? Looking at the past? Freeview is meant to be the future. And I think at this stage, almost 6 months after the first ads, that Freeview need to give us some substantial information rather than more teasers of little usefulness.

How about Freeview tell us more about their “15 channels” and how this is going to cover regional markets that have so far not seen a great deal. Where is the new Seven channel? And apart from a hint of a logo, what is Nine planning?

  11. I wouldn’t count 7&9 HD as they offer hardly eny alt programing and here in regional WIN country it’s pathetic on ch9, why not count ABC and SBS HD? Oh and no ONE HD here yet!

  12. Why couldn’t they have waited until Tuesday night to emphasize ‘why we love commercial FTA TV’ – it would have perfectly suited channel nine.

  13. Why are they reminding us of what we have already seen? I dont get it? Shouldnt they be telling us what we are missing out on when the networks purchase shows and then have them on the shelf for two years?

  14. are these the same retailers that kept their mouths shut whenever regional viewers came into their store looking for a brand new HD tv so that they could watch 10HD or ONE? they knew that their area doesn’t receive the broadcast, but they didn’t want to let the truth get in the way of a sale, so now a whole heap of regional viewers have expensive new equipment that gets them nothing but angry. i wouldn’t trust the retailers for a second, they are just after your money, they are not interested in spreading information or helping people.

  15. Beat that media conference is going to be fun. Are you able to attend David? As for the Freeview commercial, whatever, I am not who they’re marketing to so I’ll wait to lambast them once they’ve released it.
