Stamps ’embiggen’ The Simpsons

Matt Groening reckons "This is the biggest and most adhesive honor The Simpsons has ever received."

maggie-2Maggie looks pretty angry here. And who can blame her?

After all in this collection of new US stamps, honoring The Simpsons, they’ve gone for a very simple look -and is this the best the come up with for Homer?

Maybe he’s trying to lick the stamp.

Oh well. Creator and executive producer Matt Groening joined in the occasion, saying: “This is the biggest and most adhesive honor The Simpsons has ever received.”

Executive producer James Brooks quipped: “We are emotionally moved by the Post Office Department’s selecting us rather than making the lazy choice of someone who has benefited society.”

The stamps will be available in the US on May 7.

  1. Why doesn’t Maggie have a price on her stamp? Does she come free? I don’t mind the early, unpolished look, it has a certain charm. Like the Maggie one, that girl’s got attitude.

  2. They look like a 9 year old drew them, especially because bart only has 7 spikes on his head, whereas hes meant to have 9! I know i sound nerdy, but thats what an animator said in the credits of one episode!

  3. Actually – I read elsewhere that the images used were drawn by Matt himself. The reason why people don’t like them is they are so used to the nice and neat versions we see today.

  4. the characters should look the same as they do in the tv show, the one of homer is just strange and doesn’t even really look like him. they almost look as if an amateur has tried to draw them.
