Simpsons respond to clickbait: ‘Nothing’s changng’

'He’ll continue to be strangled," co-creator says of Bart Simpson.

“Times have changed,” Homer insisted, but media appears to have jumped the gun on the future behaviour of Homer Simpson and son Bart.

Last week it was reported that Homer would no longer be depicted in the running gag of choking Bart.

It followed Homer commenting on his firm handshake, “See, Marge, strangling the boy has paid off. Just kidding. I don’t do that anymore. Times have changed.”

But co-creator James L. Brooks has since told People: “Don’t think for a second we’re changing anything.

“Nothing’s getting tamed. Nothing, nothing, nothing … He’ll continue to be strangled — [if] you want to use that awful term for it. He’ll continue to be loved by his father in a specific way.”

Homer has not been spotted strangling Bart since Season 31, which aired between 2019 and 2020.

  1. I tried watching some of Season 35 after people have said it’s gotten better but the show is so self-conscious now. They continue to explain jokes and the couch gags running for 5 minutes with artsy edits suggest they’re not confident about the rest of the show.
