  1. Come on what was not to like about Bulgaria… those screeching high notes that didn’t quite make it, the stilts, the backing singers that looked like Elvira Mistress of the Dark… Eurovision Gold!

  2. I was a bit disappointed with Julia Zemiro and Sam Pang, although they did pick up towards the end. There were so many opportunities to make fun of it that they didn’t pick up on. Oh well, maybe tonight they will have become more comfortable in the narration role.

Those hosts of the Semi Final 1.. couldn’t have been more disastrous! They couldn’t keep their hands off each other and she looked like she had a few too many. The low point for them was during announcing the semi-finalists with the ‘magic button’ and he yelled out “crocodile” so she would look away and he could press the button. I don’t know who was more dumb – him for saying there was a crocodile in the room or her for actually looking!?!?

  3. Iceland has to win. It’s a bout time someone who can actually sing, wins rather than a gimmicky song. But hey its Eurovision. Finalnd is my other fave so far. Love that song. Agree Craig about the Swiss song, too modern for Eurovision, that’s prob why i liked it, couldn’t believe it was Eurovision when i heard it.

Israel was crap, why do they always get voted for. Just cos its Israel they get the pity vote, cos they’re not European, but not Middle East. Stupid.

  4. Loved it.
Best moment was the crazy wind machine with Belarus, with that dancer trapped in a membrane or something.
Then the other country where there were dancers on stilts. It was such a mess!

I thought Portugal was great. Didn’t understand a word of it, but it was so sweet.

And massive props to the production team in Moscow – the stage is absolutely incredible. They’ve done an awesome job. I think the Russian hosts were just warming up. They’ll get better in the semi and pull themselves together for the final. I hope. Or take out restraining orders against each other.

  5. I thought there was a nice even spread of songs from SF1 that progressed, 3 Eastern Bloc countries, 3 Nordic’s and 4 from elsewhere, I thought the other “Western” countries, Beligium & Andorra were crap and deserved not to get through, Julie Zemiro was right that the Swiss song was to modern and contemporary for Eurovision, I quite enjoyed the commentary from her and Sam Pang, wasnt at all intrusive, which I liked, id still rather Graham Norton for the final, but never mind, oh, the hosts, gosh..what a car wreck they were…I did feel a bit sorry for the poor love when she struggled with her French though..

  6. I’m disappointed Andorra didn’t get in, thought it was a good song. Turkeys song was addictive, loved Bosnias song, Iceland was great… but Romania was the best!!! the song has been stuck in my head all night and all morning.

I’ve never complained about Eurovision… but seriously cmmon – wtf was wrong with those 2 hosts. They seemed to be on drugs and alcohol all night. It kind of wrecked the evening for me :(. Felt uncomfortable watching them ‘cos as soon as the camera goes to them, they have no idea what they’re saying and they make up useless crap as they go. And that girl forgot her lines only a million times and her fake smiles just ruin the show. Thank Gof they’re not hosting the finals on Sunday Night!!

  7. you may have inadvertantly provided a spoiler david by saying Ireland dont quality, they actually are act 2 in tonights second semi final, but that would be no huge surprise, the Irish song this year is terrible! Overall though, a pretty even split of Nordic, Eastern Bloc and other counties have qualified I think, which is good to see
