Airdate: Wimbledon 2009

All the action from the UK is served up from June 22nd on Nine and FOX Sports 3.

wimbledon-tennisNine’s annual Wimbledon season will begin at 11:30pm Monday June 22nd and concludes at 4am the next morning.

It continues around the same start time on most nights for its tournament, with a notable earlier time of 10:15pm on Wednesday 24th following a State of Origin match, and on Thursday 25th at 11:15pm following The Footy Show. This also means Nine won’t air the NRL version in Melbourne for that week, and presumably the reverse in Sydney and Brissy (AFL edition it remains on 9HD).

On 9HD Wimbledon is simulcast with a later start-time following other programming commitments (mostly movies) generally around 1 – 1:30am.

The matches will also screen live on FOX Sports 3 from 9pm Monday June 22nd and continues live each night.

  1. Really really pathetic! instead of tennis tonight they are showing re runs of two and half men! It stinks of an under the table deal between Fox and Nine

  2. As a huge tennis fan without Fox, I would love to see Much more tennis on free-to-air. If Nine don’t want to show it, give it to another network. With the extra digital channels, there must be room for tennis. I can watch bowls and netball, but tennis is restricted to pitiful coverage. There are only four grandslams, so I am gutted that the French Open has been dropped (save some pathetic highlights – which amounts to little more than 30 minutes of play).

Kudos to Ten HD for showing the NBA (basketball) – about time someone picked it.

As Sarah said below, Perth should not be given the ‘short end of the stick’ again. I wish Nine would show the tennis live (ie. two hours earlier).

    More tennis please!

  3. Living in Perth, can I assume that once again Nine will not let me watch the final live?? God I hate Aussie tv… Thank God for Fox… Maybe I’ll fly to Melbourne and watch it live in a hotel room instead….

  4. Always look forward to Wimbledon. Should be good this year too with Sam Stosur in great form.

On a similar sport note: is channel nine going to ditch the twenty20 cricket world cup now that Australia is out? Nine still has it listed on their site, but if they show the matches they’ve slated to show, they’ll be showing 3 West Indies games because they took our spot in the next round.

  5. i am long ago over the disapointment of 9 starting the tennis at 11.30……thank god i have fox…but 9 should let fox 3 put on centre court matches until they decide to put the tennis on …its very annoying…fox can not go into centre court…god i hate 9….
