Hey Hey producer found not guilty

A Ballarat jury has delivered a not guilty verdict in the case against former Hey Hey its Saturday producer Gavan Disney.

gdA jury has delivered a not guilty verdict in the case against former Hey Hey It’s Saturday producer and co-creator Gavan Disney, clearing him of 10 charges of indecent assault and two of rape, reports news.com.au.

Mr Disney, 60, was accused of assaulting a junior TV cameraman in Ballarat and Melbourne between 1980 and 1983.

Mr Disney denied all sexual allegations put to him by prosecutor Kieran Gilligan, saying he didn’t remember hiring the young man and did not treat him as a favourite.

“He was certainly eager and he was certainly keen,” Mr Disney said of his accuser.

When asked if the young man enjoyed a meteoric rise at BTV6, Mr Disney said: “(He) was not my favourite at all. I didn’t play favourites.”

Last week County Court Judge Paul Lacava also instructed the jury to acquit Mr Disney on three indecent assault counts.
