Farmer wants an accurate promo

Monday night's episode of Farmer teased us with a sudden exit, but sure fiddled us with what was to follow.

nate“Tonight, the favourites hit the farms, and the outback will never be the same. The girls will experience both the beautiful and the ugly sides of farm life. But in a few days one will be sent home. And a secret is about to bring one farmer’s world crashing down.”

And as Natalie Gruzlewski foretold of a farmer’s world “crashing down” on last night’s episode of The Farmer Wants a Wife, we saw guarded footage of somebody packing her bags, followed by a car driving away from Farmer Nate.

It looked like somebody had changed their mind and quit their guy and the show.

But there was just one problem.

It never actually made it into the episode.

In fact, that same shot that appeared in the opening teasers was also used in the “Next Week” plug at the end of the show.

What the?

There was no exit last night was by any girl, although Scott’s girl Allison signalled she was having difficulty being separated from her daughter. So the bag packing was unrelated to the car driving off, neither of which appeared in the episode.

The moment was also used in Nine’s promos for last night’s show, which would have been cut from the finished product delivered from producers, FremantleMedia Australia.

Not exactly the end of the world but the final result was very misleading.

  1. It was Sian who is Steve’s girl who misses her child.

Brad works in the mines at the weekends and on the farm during the week to make enough money to keep the farm running. Due to the drought no doubt.

  3. Hi David,

I forgot to tape the show on Monday, and Mrs Bogues isn’t happy! Do you know if Nine plan to re-screen Monday’s episode during the weekend, as they have done in the past?

  4. @kuttsywood because most people wouldn’t know it’s filmed in sydney (no one that reads this blog, but still, the majority would be fooled by it).

  5. Must be a slow news day David? hehe

All network have done this; Ten have done it; Seven have done it; Seven had promos for Greys leading up to the whole Izzy thing which wasn’t appearing in episodes for weeks to come……..

Whats more annoying is major spoilers in promos; remember Ten with Marissa’s death on The O.C. They blantantly just came out and told everyone she was going to die; not everyone reads internet spoilers etc. Plus as much as I loved Masterchef you could read the whole episode from the promos i.e. after Sundays episode it would show clips of Wednesday nights show with contestants in it that were up for eviction so to speak in Mondays episode.

  6. That little misleading ‘hook’ is used continuously by both TT and ACA and we noted it constantly in the teasers for Desperate Houswives.

    1. Tracy Grimshaw spoke about that “up next” hook to TV Tonight last year and admitted she would throw something at the screen if she were a viewer.

I actually think in Farmer’s case it was FremantleMedia not Nine that didn’t package this properly.

  7. We got to the end of the episode and were like “Hey, wasn’t somebody going to pack their bags or something?”

Channel 9 love the ‘fake promo’ business. Last night’s ACA teased the reveal of the renovated house as ‘coming up’ only after the break to correctly inform us that by ‘coming up’ they meant ‘tomorrow night’.
