Southern Star boss quits

Hugh Marks is leaving one of the country's biggest production houses to launch an advisory service to producers and distributors.

southern starHugh Marks is stepping down from his role as CEO of Southern Star after seven years, to be replaced internally by Rory Callaghan.

Marks is to launch a new business, Media Venture Partners, that will provide advisory services to producers and distributors, but maintain an advisory relationship with Southern Star.

Southern Star produces some of the country’s biggest titles including Rush, Tangle, Bed of Roses, Rescue: Special Ops, Deal or No Deal, and was behind Love My Way and Big Brother.

Six months ago the company was acquired by Endemol, with which it already had a joint-venture relationship.

“Southern Star is having one of the best years in the history of the company with 12 drama and children’s series currently in production.” Marks said. “I look forward to applying what I have learnt over my last 15 years at Nine and Southern Star in a wider context as the content world continues to change and evolve.”

Marks joined the firm in 2006, taking up the role of Managing Director of Endemol Southern Star and Southern Star Entertainment in 2008.
