‘Squatter’ to face trial over TT assault

A Gold Coast man accused of bashing Today Tonight reporter Damien Hansen and smashing an expensive camera will face trial early next year.

The incident followed a story on a family accused of squatting in Paradise Waters last month.

Hansen received a black eye while camera equipment worth almost $50,000 was destroyed.

Police said the attack happened after Hansen, who had been filming outside the house for three days in a row, allegedly told the man: “You might have to get used to this.”

A member of the family of alleged squatters was charged with assault and wilful damage.

Let’s hope Media Watch keep their eyes on the results of this one. ABC already followed the TT and ACA stoush that took place inside the family home, involving reporters Gavin Alder and Kate Donnison.

The trial will begin in January.
