  1. @ Bamaki ‘If not on Channel Ten, show it on OneHD’
this has been discussed many times, anti-siphon rules require AFL played 1st on the primary channel before it can play on secondary. simulcast is fine.

Also AFL on Ten in Sydney is lucky to gain a 9 share. When a movie rates more than twice as much why would ten put afl on live?

  2. The funny thing about this, a few years back all the free to air channels got together and created ads attacking PayTV for stealing sport and locking it away from viewers. PayTV show all sport that they have the rights to live. Can the free to air channels claim the same thing. As a Geelong supporter living in Sydney I have been able to watch almost every Cats game live throughout the year, thanks to PayTV.

Channel Ten are a joke. If they want to change the demographics of your network from teenage girls, a good start would be to show sport live. If not on Channel Ten, show it on OneHD (their dedicated 24hr sports network).

The AFL wants to grow this great game throughout Australia. A good start would be to look after the fans that they already have. Ok I don’t live in Vicotria does that however mean that I don’t count. I am a paid up AFL member. Although I may need to rethink this next year. Why should I be a member of an organisation that does not acknowledge my location?

Saturday night I will have to resort (as i did for the Cats v Pies Prelim Final 2007) to listening to the game through the web on my laptop.

Very disappointed (again) with the free to air coverage of AFL in Sydney.

  3. You dont have to be a rocket scientist to work out why Ten are starting at 5:30pm in Perth. The earlier they start the game before 6, the less ratings advantage they will achieve for night night. But starting at 5:30 rather than 5 benefits those who need to get home from work anyway, so i dont mind. And half an hour delay is really not worth getting upset about.

  4. oh great, sit thru 30 mins of news about someone being bashed, someone finding a lost cat, and how the weather is unusually wet here in perth for spring. meanwhile, the game of the year can wait….

david – any chance you can ask perth channel 10 what their problem is?

  5. This is more good news for Ten re AFL. When Geelong and Collingwood last met in a preliminary final in 2007 the game had a national audience of: 1,743,000 with a particularly massive audience in Melbourne.
    Sydney: 209,000 Melbourne: 885,000 Brisbane: 119,000 Adelaide: 244,000
    Perth: 286,000
A case study in why the AFL TV rights are worth so much.

  6. i find it staggering 1 week they show a final live and the next 2 they show 2 terrible movies on instead. for brisbane viewers. the afl created this mess and they wont fix it of course and they will give the rights straight back to these 2 networks in a years time as well. well when that happens i wonder how they will explain why 10 or 7 wont show the gc17 and west sydney games on at a decent hour, to their new fans

  7. Is there any reason why Sydney and Melbourne viewers have a delayed broadcast?
I know they are not the core states of the AFL but this is finals. I cannot see how “the perfect man” with Hilary Duff will rate any better.
From what I can see it’s not Live on ony Pay TV station either

  8. With the amount of money Seven and Ten pay the AFL, they should get Live rights, and the AFL should insist that games are Live.

Just how backward are the AFL?

  9. i really don’t understand the afl’s logic, if people want go to the game they will whether it is shown live or not, it just looks ridiculous on tv when the commentators are talking about the game ahead, whill it is already in progress. plus when have to what and see every week during the finals if the game will be shown live or not and as a result its in none of the print guides. good on ten though for constantly pushing the afl to show games live, unlike seven which rarely does.
