Chelsea Lately down under

Updated: Chelsea Handler will record four episodes of her talk show Chelsea Lately in Oz in November.

clUS talk show host and vodka lover Chelsea Handler will record four episodes of her show Chelsea Lately in Australia in November.

The show, which screens on E!, is notable for being the only late night talk show currently on any network with a female host. Handler is only the second woman since Joan Rivers to present late night television.

“I’m waiting for someone to tell me (why we’re going) though. You should just be happy I’m not bringing a former president over with me,” she told The Australian.

Chelsea Lately is known for deriding celebrity, on a network that traditionally embraces it.

Handler is known to have shown a dislike for celebs including Zac Efron, Tori Spelling, Megan Fox, Tyra Banks, Jonas Brothers, Paris Hilton, Madonna, Amy Winehouse, John Mayer, David Hasselhoff, and Brooke Shields. Others are sometimes credited with “being a good sport”, such as Lisa Rinna, Michael Lohan, Denise Richards and Antonio Sabato Jr.

“You don’t make fun of celebrities who don’t deserve it; you only make fun of the people who really do,” she says.

“It’s easy to make fun of somebody just for the sake of it but there’s so many people to focus on who just make asses of themselves, it keeps us pretty busy.”

The shows will be recorded from November 23 to 25 at Sydney’s Foxtel Studios in front of a live audience, and will feature Australian guests.

Chelsea Lately currently airs 10.30pm on weeknights on E! Entertainment.

  1. omggggggggg i lovechelsea handler! and i love her talk show its so funny, it always makes me laugh. and omg Chuy Bravo is soooo cute! I lve him ahahah! how do you apply for tickets to go to this! i really want to go.

  2. Chelsea Lately could be a good show if she ditched the novelty midget and got funnier comedians on the panel.

Jim Norton would have been perfect if he wasn’t attached to Leno. Greg Giraldo would also do great in that format.

Or just bring back Tough Crowd.

  3. The Soup downunder was just a few clips at the end of the show – it had come at the end of a week where McHale was in Sydney but IIRC the episode was still taped in LA, this is different – esp if she’ll have Australian Comedians on.

This show is like two halves, the second half is the guest interview but the first half where she gets 3 comedians together and they discuss various celebrity gossip news is some of the funniest TV you’ll see all week!
