Way to build a following in Melbourne, Ch 9 – well done *slow claps*
We cant even get a live broadcast of a game involving our own team – or indeed a broadcast as a decent time. Who cares if it wont rate anywhere near the AFL match on Ch 7? I can guarantee you it will rate higher than any crappy movie you will show that night…
Maybe by not showing the game live in Melbourne, it will convince more people to go to the actual game. That said, a two hour delay would be more reasonable.
Well the Brisbane Lions game is live from the MCG into Brisbane 7.30pm Friday nigh thats all I care about.
Actually, leaving out ACT and NT doesn’t make this incorrect. I admit there is a focus on 5 FTAs but it’s metro cities that are supplying the info.
@ David: that is slightly incorrect. The NRL finals will also be shown live in ACT and NT.
As for the Melbourne-Manly qualifying final, I can understand why Nine don’t want to show it against the AFL in Melbourne, but how about dropping an episode of The Closer and show it at 11pm or 11.30pm? And for the NRL fans in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, you can always want the match replay on the NRL website.
for all viewers outside of QLD and NSW there are other ways to watch the game live.
Looks like AFL and NRL both have same problems when broadcasting in non traditional states. How’s this gonan work for Channel Nine? They’re bidding for the AFL rights, if the also have NRL rights, where’s their priority gonna be? And when’s the new A-League deal gonan come? i want to see that on FTA. I don’t know why all 3 commercial networks can’t share AFL, NRL and A-League games.
With all this talk about Nine delaying the Storm game in Melbourne, does anyone know what they’re showing in its place?
As a Brisbane league fan, I can’t believe that Nine are shafting Melbourne viewers (again). The Friday game should definitely be live (or an hour delay at most). Likewise with the Sunday game. Surely nothing on Sunday afternoon would rate better than a league game, even in a AFL dominant state.
It’s going to be intresting in Brisbane this Friday night to see how the Brisbane Lions semi-final goes against an NRL final not involving a Queensland team.
I personally can’t understand why some of the NRL final matches can be broadcast into Melbourne, Adelaide & Perth – surely the Friday night game (in which Melbourne is playing in) & the Sunday afternoon game can be broadcast live into Melbourne & into Adelaide and Perth?
The NRL should make it mandatory for all Storm matches to be played live in Melbourne, like the AFL has for Brisbane and Sydney …
Currently the Bulldogs v Knights game is not scheduled at all on Channel 9 outside of QLD & NSW. This is due to the US Open coverage on Channel 9. So only 3 of the 4 finals will be available on FTA in Melbourne
For AFL fans in Sydney and Brisbane complaining about AFL finals coverage..
Melbourne won’t even get a finals game involving their own team at a decent time.. and the only Storm game (and the Origins) shown live on Nine this year outrated every single AFL game in Sydney and Brisbane.
Rugby replays at 12.00am in Perth. LOL. No wonder I subscribed to Foxtel.
Further proof of Nines contempt for viewers in Mel/Adel/Per! The State of Origin matches did well in Melbourne, so why cant it show the Friday night game live?? They should show this in Melb:
7.30 Fri 1st QF *live*
8.30 Sat 3rd QF *live* / 10.30 2nd QF
3.30 Sun 4th QF *live*
In fact the NRL should be insisting on it, Ten shows its Lions/Swans games live into their markets, even though they dont rate… surely the finals would pull a good audience compared to rerun/2nd rate movies….
Cannot believe Ch9s poor treatment of Melbourne rugby league fans. I can understand not showing the games live, esp on fri and sat night against AFL, but at least have them at an earlier time than midnight! Especially the Storm game on friday night – what a joke!! im sure the afl finals in syd and bris are on about 10.30pm?
@Craig H: The NRL finals schedule was decided well before Riverfire was announced for this date, earlier this year.
It’s also the first time outside the annual Brisbane event’s “traditional” late August slot, the move most was likely insisted by Channel 7, to drive a stake through the vampire, that is Nine.
I do like that it’s a Parramatta Eels picture you’ve got there =D
Whole weekend of footy, should be good.
Hang on, so if you are a Melbourne Storm fan, and you can’t get to the game, you have to wait until midnight to watch the replay, when it’s probably already played on Fox Sports???
And people think AFL gets a raw deal in non-AFL markets – try the NRL in non-NRL markets! That’s much worse!
At last the finals are upon us! As a huge Parra fan I would love to see the mighty Eels get up over the Dragons but after their 37-0 victory over us on Friday night and can’t that happening. My prediction, as it has been all year, St. George vs Bulldogs in the Grand Final.
that sucks! heres a perfect oppourtunity for 9 to play a NRL match at a reasonable hour in melbourne, and they dont!
its a pity…it would probably rate alright…
eeek..the broncos final clashes with Riverfire in Brisbane this weekend, thats poor scheduling on the part of the NRL.
You’d think they’d put the Friday game on at 7.30 in Melbourne as well for the Storm fans. Storm fans in Melbourne should get onto Nine about that.
Seven’s going to take a bath in Brisbane… Fireworks or Footy… I’d take the footy.
