Seth Rogen scripts The Simpsons

Seth Rogen becomes only the second celebrity to both write and act on The Simpsons after Ricky Gervais.

homSeth Rogen’s scripted episode of The Simpsons is about to air in the US.

The actor and writer of films including The 40 Year Old Virgin, Pineapple Express and material for Sacha Baron Cohen, will see his episode open the 21st series of the FOX comedy.

Rogen is only the second celebrity to both write and act on the animated series after Ricky Gervais.

Rogen said, “As a writer, it always just seemed like the Holy Grail. I can die a happy man now.”

The 27-year-old actor will play a trainer hired to get Homer Simpson into shape in an episode titled ‘Homer The Whopper’.

He said: “We wanted to comment on how Hollywood generally ruins these movies. The whole joke is Homer is cast to play a guy who’s an everyman and they try to make him into this physically fit guy.”

He said of recording the voicework with the cast: “It was completely surreal. I was just in shock afterward. I felt like I had gone skydiving or survived an earthquake.”

No word yet when this series will air in Australia.

  1. Paull, sometimes it takes several attempts to get it right and get in shape, I dont mind though, I always enjoy the Simpsons, so I will watch the episode this evening with the kids, they are getting impatient to watch it heheh

  2. This will be the 3 episode about homer getting in shape. First there was the ‘Power Source bar’ episode, where homer goes to the gym at mid-night to get fit, then climbs a mountain. Then there was that episode where homer gets lipo, and now this. I guess after 20 seasons you’re bound to repeat story lines.

  3. Good to hear, but as The Simpsons has become and now is, such a lame, unfunny and poorly written show these days (being made primarily for the money), I gave up watching it 5 years ago.

Conan wrote for the Simpsons before he was a ‘celeb’. On the DVD commentary, they talked about how they wrote him in to ‘Bart Gets Famous’ after he tested for Late Night but before he was confirmed as host, assuming by the time the ep went to air, he would actually have started. He finished writing about a year before he started Late Night.

  5. My guess as to when the 21st season of the Simpsons is to air in Australia is early next year (eg February/March).

The premiere of the Simpsons movie should have been held off to concide with the 21st season, or if it couldn’t then either the Itchy & Scratchy movie or Radioactive Man episodes would be good lead ins as they both deal with movies of a popular show or comic book.
