Maris Rudaks, the liquidator of Adelaide-based Banksia Productions, is “getting closer” to being in a position to offer the Humphrey B. Bear licence for sale possibly before the year was out.
The wind-up, which includes the rest of Banksia’s assets, is the result of a $50,102 debt owed to WIN-owned Channel Nine in South Australia, which falls under the ownership of Bruce Gordon.
The Australian notes some of the parties keen to attain the rights to the popular character include Malcolm Harslett, who was a presenter on Here’s Humphrey from 1972 – 1984. He is keen to see the character in a new TV series (last week Humphrey even popped up moonlighting as a goal umpire on Rove).
“You’ve got to have professional people in the industry working with a character — with Humphrey — because Humphrey is an entertainer,” Harslett said.
Children’s charity the McGuiness McDermott Foundation, a children’s charity, which formed multimedia company Imagination Entertainment with Seven, was also said to be interested.
In June it was reported that more than 70 buyers were looking at Banksia Productions, which include the rights to Hot Science, The Music Shop, Guess What and a stable of wildlife documentaries.

Bring back The Curiosity Show too Banksia!
@boxhead
From the linked article:
“Meanwhile, Humphrey, as usual, declined to comment.”
You’d think he could write a response. He can write can’t he? Or hasn’t he learnt anything from his show over the past 40 odd years? :-p
Yeah I’d used that gag before so I didn’t wanna drag it out again. Maybe I should make it a running gag.
i think 10 should pick this up and sick it on there new SD channel when they launched it, or the ABC should pick it up for ABC3
The Fifty Grand Nine wastes on imports of 2.5 men episodes could have gone here instead.
Franz that’s PBL not WIN.
I’d be interested to hear what Humphrey has to say about all this……
Banksia, don’t sell to 7.
Otherwise:
1- They’ll make Humphrey talk.
2- They’ll stick him in the walking TV set, along with Seven Two.
and 3- where in Adelaide can Seven produce Humphrey?
You saw how the Bakers Delight ads were wrecked when they let the bakers talk, imagine what it will do to Humphrey.
