Mildura adds ONE HD

ONE is coming to viewers in Mildura in both high and standard definition from December.

oneid11Mildura Digital Television (TEN Mildura) will broadcast ONE from 6:30am Tuesday December 1st.

The 24hr sports channel will be broadcast in high definition and standard definition in addition to the standard definition primary channel.

“The launch of ONE will be exciting for local sports fans” said Darryl Bevan, TEN Mildura’s Manager. “ONE will also play a key role in the transition from analogue to digital television. The new channel will give viewers in the Sunraysia a compelling reason to make the switch to digital, ahead of analogue switch off in Mildura next year.”

The Mildura region is the first in Australia to switch entirely from analogue to digital in the first half of 2010.

TEN Mildura is a joint venture between Prime Television and WIN Television.

  1. Dewy,

It is with my understanding that ONE HD is not likely to arrive to Darwin until next year sometime at the earliest. I stumbled across articles that DDT has to start content on it’s HD channel by April 2010, 2 years after DDT first started. Whether it is upconverted SD or ONE HD I do not know, but by law a station have to start showing content on HD 2 years after the station debuted on digital. But again it depends on PBL Media and Southern cross, the owner of DDT. The owner can decide not to do so deeming that Darwin is not a profitable market for ONE HD. But regardless of that, I look forward to seeing 7 TWO down the track sometime.

  2. Jezza,

Mildura is still a Prime market, so when Prime eventually takes on 7TWO it’ll be network wide (with the exception of their GWN market). Yet, for OneHD, there’s only one MDT market & that’s Mildura.

  3. Good on Mildura but it’s weird that it took this long if it’s the first place to switch off the old analogue signal.

So any news if SC10 will get the ONE SD or are they now waiting on what TEN is planning for the 2nd SD to switch to programing other than sports?
