Boy, that didn’t take long….
TEN has dropped Stargate Universe and Supernatural from Monday nights.
Both shows are now out of schedule, giving the new sci fi just three weeks on air before being pulled.
On Monday night Stargate Universe took 487,000 viewers, leaving Supernatural just 394,000 and more importantly a lowly evening share of just 16% for the night.
They will be replaced by Monday night movies:
Jan 4: The Siege (1998)
Jan 11: Double Jeopardy (1999)
Jan 18: Speed (1994)
TEN is probably working out where to reschedule unaired episodes of both shows…. keep you posted on this one.

Every time a channel does this they should play an advert at the usual broadcast time explaining why they’ve cancelled the show and apologise to those who had been following it.
@marc – Not in my opinion, Ten has a few shows that could do well on a 3rd “Entertainment” channel – Smallville/SGU/Supernatural/BSG to name some. Smallville because it has Gone from FTA seemingly to be never mentioned again.
Thankgoodness I already have all the Season 5 eps of Supernatural that have aired from the US. I’m giving up on TEN.
yeah, its almost identical to what happened to battlestar. Just out of curiousity – with 7two and go – would a ch10 general entertainment channel constitute overkill in the digital ch market? Im not sure.
Point noted David, however if networks didn’t bump their shows out of schedule before they had a chance to build their audience then people wouldn’t download. double ended sword really. My question: is it possible for ten to “air” the show strictly online? or is there some sort of legal issue where they have to show it on normal TV first? I think SGU would make the perfect experiment to see if people would watch a streaming version with ads spliced in
I cannot get ADSL where I live so internet is not a viable option for me! Soooo annoyed. To repeat others, I thought non-ratings was actually non-ratings! Grrrr…..stupid Ten…
David, SG-U ended in the US just when it started here.
There would be no reason to download if the networks weren’t so slow…fastracking prevents downloading.
@David Knox
Or: If the show didn’t suck, people would watch it again 😉
To play devil’s advocate… if people didn’t download and watched on air, networks might not have to dump. Discuss….
… aaaaannnnnnnd free to air does it again. *sigh*
ETA – yes tomothy SG:U just finished the first half of it’s first season on SciFi a few weeks ago, but will be back Feb 4th in the US and probably a week later here on SciFi again.
Yes TEN needs a 3rd channel for shows like this.
So p*ssed off. I know, i know…why did I bother getting into it in the first place? But I thought at worst they’d move it, not kill it.
I’ll try and look shocked… So the fans who have been waiting around the last few months for TEN to do the right thing just got an unwelcomed xMas gift, no wonder they are turning to the Internet and PayTV.
See you on Ten2
How can anyone blame people for downloading shows when this sort of thing goes on!!!!
god, that was the best night of the week for tv, now there is nothing for me to watch, I certainly won’t be watching those movies. 10 are really trying to take the title of “most hated” away from 9.
Very strange decision. Back in the ‘good old days’ – say the late 70’s – mid 80’s the non ratings period was the dumping ground for all sort of weird and unusual shows – without any thought if they rated anything or not.
These days it seems the ‘non-ratings’ period is a contradiction in terms in that shows must still rate even if tv channels move them around without any warning!
If both shows ever do return it’ll be on another digital channel – why do stations buy these products and yet treat them – and viewers – so shabbily??
How the heck is anyone meant to watch a programme on a commercial television station when it is pulled, bumped shown out of order etc.
Isn’t it weird how a show can do bad on a main channel, put it on a second channel and it pulls big numbers.
Ten (this summer) is becoming worse than Nine.
i think both shows would do better on a friday, put supernatural after stargate starting from 9.30, so if people want to see supernatural its a fri and they can stay up.
relax…adsl prices are so cheap now :p
Isnt Stargate Universe on SciFi too? Or am I thinking of another version?
I’d say these will end up on TEN2 next year along with 90210, Melrose Place etc. It will definately be the Aus version of TheCW.
Gee what a shock on Ten’s part. SGU should’ve always been slotted at an
11 pm timeslot, if Ten can’t afford to launch a 3rd channel.
But everything is rating low now. Why not just leave it. These movies are not going to do any better.
Yet again the contradiction of “non-ratings” continues.
10 need their 3rd channel to be a general entertainment so shows like these can move to there. Look how well Stargate Atlantis is doing on 7two I feel sorry for fans of these channel 10 show.
when i saw the ad for stargate i though it was an odd choice for primtime fta.
