Grant Denyer returns to Sunrise

Grant Denyer will return to the role that made him a network personality.

Grant Denyer will return to the role that made him a network personality, fronting the weather for Sunrise.

He returns to show from tomorrow as main weather gal Fifi Box becomes the show’s Entertainment Editor.

That role was under James Tobin’s watch, who will in turn fill in for Denyer when he takes time out next month for his honeymoon.

“I’ve had four years of nice sleeps-ins, but it’s time for me to get stuck right back into it,” said Denyer.

Denyer, who will also host season four of Australia’s Got Talent this year, has also announced his retirement from motor racing. In 2008 a monster truck accident that broke a verterbra and saw him out of action for months.

He will also file occasional stories for Sunday Night.

Seven’s revamped Sunrise launches tomorrow at 6am with a new set and format from its Martin Place studio. Look for a new-wooden set, plus red, silver and a new embossed Sunrise logo.

  1. Just rec’d the following from the Sunrise team:-

    Hello Kathy,

It’s great to be back for a new year. Tomorrow morning, we unveil our all new home. I can promise you, it’s very different. That’s not the only thing changing. We’re really excited to have Grant Denyer returning to Sunrise. From tomorrow, he’ll be back on full time weather duties. It’s like having the band back together!Fifi told us late last year that she didn’t think she could spend another year travelling. You’ll remember it really took a toll on her health. She spent two months off with pneumonia. In fact, we had her over at our place for a week just before Christmas so Lib could give her some home style nursing – and we were surprised by how bad she’d got. It was time for a serious talk!

    [edit]

There’s also been a lot said about the weekly segment we plan with the Prime Minister. I thought I should tell you the background. We get thousands of emails everyday from people frustrated by government decisions. Rather than let them go to waste, we wanted a way for our viewers to vent directly to the man actually making the decisions. So the Prime Minister has agreed to front up every week. He’ll have no warning about the questions – and he’ll have no say on who’s asking them. Every week, three viewers will put their questions directly to him. If they’re not happy with the answer, they’re entitled to one follow up question. This is direct democracy. And we hope this becomes a regular segment for years to come, no matter which side of politics is in office. Well we have a few final rehearsals on the set today – and then it’s all systems go from 6am tomorrow. And just by watching, you have the chance to win $100,000 and one of three Fiat cars. It’s breakfast television’s biggest car and cash giveaway – all week.

    See you tomorrow. Kochie

An extract from one of David’s previous post in relation to the new Sunrise set.

‘Set to coincide with the return of ratings, the makeover is being masterminded by Jim Fenhagen, from Production Design Group in New York City. His credits are formidable: The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report, CBS Early Show, Anderson Cooper 360, The Martha Stewart Show, Sky News London and more.’

  3. That’s great news! I couldn’t stand watching Fifi’s fake smiles all the time. Grant is a natural for that role, and I still laugh when I remember him dressed in tight leotards doing a cross with cheerleaders one morning!

  4. Bit unfair that Tobin isn’t getting promoted.

And I thought Sunrise was supposed to be having a ‘re-vamp’. Doesn’t that mean by trying something new instead of roping in old presenters who moved on?

Seems like a step backwards to me – or desperation…..

  5. I hope this is not their big surprise! Sure it’s something but not, IMO “Rabbit outta the hat” surprise! Hang on thats exactly what it sounds like. Damn. I was hoping, and still am that they use Molly properly and (sorry no other way I can think of saying this) milk him for all things music. He is a legend and nobody knows more about the music scene than him. Fi Fi is nothing exciting, pretty little blond thing with a smile that never stops shining.

  6. @Aaron. It wouldn’t surprise me.

Boland has copied everything else from NBC today including the outdoor rock concerts, the friendly “banter” between co-hosts, the hosts appearing on the street and even the same logo.

  7. am thrilled! The sun will be shining again… Not Fifi’s annoying mispronounciation of the ‘i-n-g’ sound… Won’t be rainin’ snowin’ or blowin’ a gale. Hip hip hooray!
