Free games for ‘loyal’ subscribers

If you've been a Foxtel subscriber for more than 5 years, are you getting free access to the Winter Olympics?

If you’ve been a Foxtel subscriber for more than 5 years, are you getting free access to the Winter Olympics?

If not, make a few calls…

The Australian reports the Pay TV broadcaster is giving those viewers a free package of the Games, worth $65.

Foxtel says it had always planned to reward those viewers with the Games. Those who had paid for the pass are understood to be receiving a refund.

Last week CEO Kim Williams wouldn’t confirm the number of packages sold, but said sales were in the “six-figure range.”

  1. good idea to offer this free to loyal costumers, although the technicalities are pretty stupid, so your not a “loyal” costumer if you had foxtel for say ten years, just because you don’t subscribe to the sports package!

  2. Wow, Foxtel you are a ‘right pain’ sometimes.

I called, Foxtel earlier this morning. They said “I see you have been a member for 8 years (he failed to mention the other 6 at my previous location) …mmmm, let me see, you should have been upgraded”. Can you wait while I go check something???

Sure I said. Operator comes back with ‘ sorry you are not able to have this package for free as you a) have not been a member for 5 years and b) you have not subscribed to sport”

Hello Mr Foxtel : Remember 2 minutes ago you advised I had been a member for 8 years. And, as far as the sport package is concerned, since when has it not been covered in the Premium package that I have been subscribing to for all these years.

Foxtel : Can you hang on again – Sure, I said as my blood was beginning to boil.

10 minutes later, Foxtel ask if I could go to Channel 188 to see if I now have the coverage…. Yay, now have access to all Winter Olympic Channels.

What is even better is that I no longer have to put up with Channel 9 coverage.

    I am happy now.

  3. just called Telstra – not offering the freebie like Foxtel. Although operator said would put a request in for me for Telstra to match the Foxtel offer.

Seriously considering switching back to Foxtel

  4. 11 year subscriber, including sports package(s) as they changed through the years and no free winter olympics……

I guess this is their revenge 😛 as we held on to the analog subscription for as long as possible (on the digital change over – we were dudded on a few missing channels in various packages, despite being told otherwise).

  5. Ok…I have been wasting my time as Foxtel just informed me that anyone who has **Foxtel with Telstra** won’t be getting the Olympic games package for free.

Greedy Telsta does it again….gotta love ’em !!!!

  6. We are with Foxtel From Telstra.
I just rung them (131 999) and was directed to a Telstra person who maintained this is not so and where did I get my information.

We have been with Foxtel for over 10years, have IQ and always pay out bills on time etc……..and we have never ever been given any freebies so I’m not going to let this one go….

I am hoping you recieve more feedback regarding this.

  7. gee thats big of them! Obviously Foxtel’s generosity is inversely proportional to the popularity of their programs.

No one wants to watch this irrelevant sporting event – so you don’t have to pay for it.

Great marketing – lets try and get something good out of this!

  8. Made the call…apparently only for >5 yr subscribers already on a sports package with multi room install or IQ2. So I was knocked back despite having sport and >5yr.

  9. I’ve just spoken to Foxtel and apparently this offer is only available to subscribers who are billed directly by Foxtel. If your Foxtel service is billed by Telstra then you do not qualify for the free Olympic coverage from pay TV. Yet another reason why so many people hate Telstra.

  10. We’ve been with Foxtel since 1997 or ’98. Spend about $100 per month with ’em.
We haven’t been rewarded for being a ‘loyal customer’.
No Winter Olympics being shared with this house.
Maybe you have to be buying the Sports package to qualify???

  11. I’ve been a Foxtel subscriber for 12 years, currently on the Platinum HD package with an IQ2. I heard this rumour last week on another forum and tried, unsuccessfully, to get the olympics channels for free. I wonder whether Foxtel’s attitude will be different now that they’ve been “outed”?

  12. I guess they didnt get enough people wanting to pay for it. I havent checked to see if I have them, only because I am not interested, and I didnt think that I would be getting it for free.
Foxtel did call me last week and said that because I have been a long time subscriber, that they will install a second standard box in my place for free, but with an ongoing $3.75 fee for the box ($16.25 month). I declined, I have IQ so I dont need to spend extra money. I’d rather get free movies up to the value of an installation of a second box.

  13. Damn, we’re honestly 11 days away from five years straight! Though we had Foxtel for four years prior to that, so all up we’ve been subscribers for nine years, surely that counts for something! lol (the Olympic channels are blocked for me, about to ring Foxtel to see if 1999-2003 makes up for the 11 day shortfall).

  14. Thanks for this info – havent tried the channels – interesting that they havent advised people of this situation – or have they and i have missed it 🙂
