Rip Torn in bank arrest

US actor charged with burglary after being found in a bank intoxicated and carrying a loaded revolver.

In one of the more bizarre celebs-gone-bad stories in recent times, US actor Rip Torn has been charged with burglary after he was found him inside a Connecticut bank “with a loaded revolver.”

The actor, best known for roles in The Larry Sanders Show, 30 Rock and films including Men in Black, was being held on $100,000 bond after police responded to an alarm at the Litchfield Bank in Salisbury.

The 78 year old actor was also found to be “highly intoxicated,” according to a police report.

He was charged with burglary, criminal trespass and criminal mischief and weapons charges.

Bank President Mark E. Macomber, told TMZ no-one was in the building at the time Torn allegedly broke in and the only damage was to the smashed window supposedly his point of entry. He reckons Torn wasn’t trying to hurt anyone or steal anything.

Torn, who has a lengthy career in showbiz, has been arrested several times in recent years for drunken driving and received a fine, license suspension or probation. He was also acquitted of one charge.

He is due in court on Monday, US time.

  1. You’ve gone easy on him using this photo above. The mugshot I’ve seen on other sites is a bloody classic! It ranks up there with Nick Nolte’s mugshot.
