7PM Project to hire News Editor

Executive Producer Craig Campbell says the hiring of a senior journalist will add clout to the news content of The 7PM Project.

The 7PM Project is on the hunt for a News Editor to add to the show’s editorial content.

Until now the show has shared resources with TEN News but Executive Producer Craig Campbell tells TV Tonight he is delighted to be adding a senior journalist to the team.

“It’s always been the plan but we’ve never found the right person. It’s kind of been done ad hoc for a while, but as I get the show more and more established I want someone who can go ‘OK in this story who’s the hero, who’s the villain, where are we at?'” he said.

“At 7:00 it’s becoming very apparent that people are coming to us as a news service. So we’re stepping up.

“I want to make sure we have someone with real news clout in our room and our sphere to guide our News bulletin. Because let’s face it, news is the spine of the show.”

An advertisement in yesterday’s Australian indicates the role would suit ‘an individual who has worked on a similar role in a newsroom as a Chief of Staff or News Editor or Snr. Journalist.’

Campbell says the position will also open up opportunities to break news stories too.

“It’s a great positive step for the show and yet again another endorsement from TEN, giving us the thumbs up that we’re here for a while,” he said.

“I couldn’t be happier with TEN saying ‘Let’s get you them one of those!”

  1. Jason (6:40pm),

As scary as that sounds, I think you’re right. But that’s not as scary as “… becoming very apparent that people are coming to us as a news service.”

  2. I believe the term we’re after here is “flogging a dead horse”.

Perhaps if the news segments weren’t presented by that vapid individual named Carrie, things would improve? At least that would be a no-cost option. In fact if they fired her and Dave they’d both save money and improve the show.

If they cancelled the show altogether and aired the test pattern, they’d save even more and still have better content.
