The ABC has backtracked from plans to give ABC3 the World Premiere of Dead Gorgeous, its new Australian-produced children’s drama.

The spooky series about 3 girls who died in 1861 but return to their estate as ghosts 150 years later will instead launch on ABC1.

Produced by Burberry Productions, the series features Melissa Howard (Rebecca), Poppy Lee Friar (Sophie), Alexandra Coppinger (Hazel), Blake Davis (Jonathan), Chris Milligan (David), Jay Kennedy Harris (Charlie), Aisha Dee (Christine), Gerry Connolly (Mr Griffith), Julie Forsyth (Haiwyn Sinclaire) and Julie Eckersley (Agatha Heggleby).

It begins 5:20pm Monday April 5th on ABC1 and is replayed from 8pm April 13 on ABC3.

Dead Gorgeous follows the comical adventures of three beautiful, strong-willed teenage sisters Rebecca (Melissa Howard), Sophie (Poppy Lee Friar) and Hazel Ainsworth (Alexandra Coppinger) who just happen to be ghosts!

When the three sisters died in a tragic coach accident in 1861, alongside their beloved nanny Mildred, they thought it was obviously some sort of cosmic ‘glitch’.

Taking matters into her own hands, Rebecca makes an application to the Ghost Council, the high court of the afterlife, requesting them to return her and her sisters back to the world of the living. But the afterlife is much like real life, bureaucracy is slow and forms get lost or misfiled. For the sisters, the wait was 150 years, stuck in limbo.

Upon their return to the estate, the girls quickly realise their home has been turned into a school. They now find themselves in a world unbeknown to them, and under the watchful eye of their colourful, ghostly guardian – Agatha (Julie Eckersley). The sisters can stay under one circumstance – no one is to find out their secret otherwise they will be sent back to the afterlife.

love this show as someone said it is good to see something different rather then seeing vampires but Ugh great show ;D

  3. omg i love the show for an afternoon. its better for young teenagers -like me- who get sick of the baby type shows. the first episode i thought was a bit wierd but i watched it the next day and fell in love. my fav character is hazel. she is awesome.can’t wait for it to come out on dvd

  4. Does anyone know the name of the actor who plays Maz Baxter in Law Of The Jungle episod 5???? Oh and also i Love the show!!! 😀

  5. i love this show!
i am 16 and i find it really enjoyable! =)
i love each of the characters and this show is a nice change to all the vampire related topics, there are just so much vampire stuff around that its getting irritating and boring.
the ideas are quite funny they get me laughing so it’ll be good for a sad/bad day =)
i am excited to see if anything goes wrong with relationships between the ghosts and the people, especially relationships to do with Love!

  6. I have watched it and it is not is not a bad show. It is a good family show and a nice change from all the other stuff on TV. I am a 47 year old male and it is certainly different. Kid’s shows have come a long way since Skippy (remember that)

  7. I thought this was well scripted for the most part and all the actors were obviously enjoying the whole thing, especially the bizarre final episode where Sophie becomes possessed. Does anyone know when this is out on dvd? I can’t find any info at all. I emailed the BBC but to no avail.

  8. I quite like the show, it is a nice change from things like gossip girl. Predictable, but still a lovely show. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the episodes. (:

  9. Recommend a program like this to all kids and to the young at heart big kids who If they happen to be home at that time of night as an alternative to those game shows over at 7 or 9.

  10. For those arguing about which one of the 3 its being shown on, it doesn’t matter which of the 3 they show it on, if you dont have digital by the end of 2013 then you wont have television viewing period. And most areas will have had analogue turned off well before then!

  11. I just watched the first episode and I thought it was really good. I’m looking forward to seeing the next show tomorrow.

  12. I think it is lame. It is just another idiotic TV show for little 11 year old girls. Although the plot is new the theme of it is cliche and predictable…. come on, I can’t believe people watch this silly crap and it is not at all funny, just kind of pathetic. And that Rebbecca girl, who from 1861 is that modern? The way she talks about matters such as boys is too 21st century and I find it difficult to believe that she came from an upper upper/middle class family.

  13. does anyone know where i can get the theme song from ? i believe its sung by Annabelle Priftis ? artist and song title please..its like a younger version of charmed..

  14. omg i noe the person that plays hayzel
alex goes to my school and we do rowing together

  15. Just to say, I live in the UK and I really like the show…definitely an original. I tried to figure out when it was shown in Australia and found out we had the world première!!

Recommend it to all kids. It’s totally funny.

  16. So from what Kirben and J Bar have said, it’s smarter to show new series on ABC1 because it offers a wider audience. But it offers a wider audience because new series are shown on ABC1, minimising digital uptake.

    The chicken or the egg?

  17. Good choice to show the new series on the ABC1 first, since it offers the widest audience, and would be better than the constant repeats lately.

Clever creative minds? this looks like another typical school based series, with unusual character(s) added .

  18. @ J Bar definitely not we should be promoting digital uptake. It should air first on ABC3, then much later on ABC1.

  19. It seems the series, a co-prdn with the UK, is airing in the UK this week as a World Premiere.

This still doesn’t change the decision to give ABC1 the Aus premiere over ABC3.

  20. Why? Four months ago ABC3 was the new “home” of kids TV and now it’s a dumping ground for repeats of ABC1 shows. Similarly, ABC1 is a dumping ground for old ABC3 shows (Prank Patrol, My Place, Twisted Whiskers, How To Be Indie, The Sleepover Club, The Super Hero Squad Show). We’ll still have analogue in 2020 if the ABC keeps catering to analogue viewers to this extent.

  21. This looks really good. Why aren’t the clever creative minds who make the kid’s shows working on the adult dramas and comedies too? They have to learn that it’s okay to have high concept TV for adults, instead of glum serious soaps or so-called “high octane” dramas (which quickly devolve into soaps) all the time.

  22. This is smarter way of showing their new programs. Give them a run on ABC1 and then repeat them on ABC3. That should be standard.
