Is this an Aussie TV first?
On Monday there will be two first-run local dramas going head to head in the same timeslot on multichannels.
Neighbours airs at 6:30pm weeknights on ELEVEN while Dance Academy will premiere on Monday in the same timeslot on ABC3.
Both of them draw from the same demographic well of teens and tweens.
There haven’t been many first-run local dramas on multichannels: ABC2’s twenty something, I ROCK, and ABC3’s My Place and Dead Gorgeous are obvious candidates.
The more established soap is likely to win the numbers game, but if ABC3 can show a lift in its audience it will be off to a good start.

should do alright.I know Dance Academy is mainly for kids but who knows maybe the fed up to death of crappy current affairs over at 7 or 9 lot who aren’t bogan or feral will make the switch.
Seems a shame that the ABC couldn’t have just put it on at 6pm.
Digital Channels need to invest in more short run series like ABC2s IROCK and TwentySomething – both were fantastic; very funny, short series that would not have cost a fortune to produce.
It is great practice and exposure for emerging film and television makers. I fully support it.
ABC3 should have known better and found a slot that didn’t clash with another first run Aussie drama.
Dance Academy rightfully deserves a wide audience. It’s one of the best young people’s dramas made in this country for a very long time.
Neighbours numbers have been a bit low recently, but I suspect it will have an easy win here.
Watching Neighbours is like watching paint dry……
This sounds ok, in terms of pitting one show against the other who both draw from the same demographic for their relativity. Lets see who wins
Obviously it’s not good news for fans of both, but I kinda like that we can do this.
