Hey Dad actors speak out

Julie McGregor & Chris Truswell have responded to claims in which former child actress Sarah Monahan, says she was the victim of a sexual predator on set.

Former Hey Dad stars Julie McGregor and Chris Truswell have spoken out in response to a magazine interview in which former child actress Sarah Monahan, who played Jenny, says she was the victim of a sexual predator on the set of the hit Seven show.

“I had heard something, but I had no idea of the extent of the monstering,” McGregor told A Current Affair. “And I feel sorry for her that she didn’t have anyone to turn to. But isn’t that always the way with children?”

Neither McGregor, who played ‘Betty’, nor Truswell, who played ‘Nudge’, said they knew who the person was.

“I thought I had a feeling that I might know, but no…. I can only speculate,” says McGregor.

Similarly, Truswell says he never saw anything going on.

Monahan who now lives in the US, claims the person concerned would often sit her on their lap and try to ‘cop a feel’ as well as regularly flashing her.

According to the article, the abuse went on for some time and escalated. At the age of 9 she was the breadwinner for her family, so didn’t speak out about the incidents.

“It worries me that this person is still out there and I hope that they’re not getting away with it again,” says McGregor.

Hey Dad is said to have had 30 male crew and 3 male cast members at any given time during its seven year run.

ACA says more people from the long-running sitcom have now contacted them with information.
